Très bel exemplaire.La presse enfantine française est bouleversée par la parution du Journal de Mickey en octobre 1934. Le nouvel illustré popularise la bande dessinée américaine en France. Il est bientôt imité par une vague de journaux dédiés aux héros les plus divers, de Popeye à Mandrake en passant par Guy l éclair ou Superman, et à leurs imitations anglaises, italiennes ou même yougoslaves. Toutes ces bandes dessinées deviennent après la guerre la principale source d inspiration des dessinateurs français. Le triomphe de ces illustrés n a pas laissé indifférent les adultes qui, dès la fin des années trente, les accusent de corrompre les idéaux de la jeunesse. La sensibilisation de l opinion et des pouvoirs publics à la protection de l enfance conduit après d âpres débats à l adop! tion d une loi de moralisation : la loi de juillet 1949 sur les publications destinées à la jeunesse. Elle confie la surveillance et le contrôle des journaux pour les enfants et les adolescents à une commission qui, contrairement à un mythe tenace, ne fut pas une horrible entreprise de censure, même si son action évolua entre intimidation et répression à l encontre de ses têtes de turc : Tarzan, Le Fantôme du Bengale ou bien encore Fantax. Ce climat de moralisation favorise le succès d illustrés éducatifs et militants comme le catholique C urs vaillants ou le progressiste Vaillant et surtout l épanouissement d illustrés belges, Le journal de Spirou et Le Journal de Tintin, qui privilégient la naissance d un style graphique moderne et original dans un esprit de bienséance chrétienne.
