Brochure editoriale verde a stampa con al piatto superiore il titolo "Campioni esistenti nella Tipografia della R. D. Camera l'anno MDCCCLVI". Non comune piccolo "manuale tipografico" in stile Bodoniano, a cura della Tipografia Camerale di Modena (all'epoca con sede in Contrada de' Bagni presso San Paolo), che illustra i diversi tipi di carattere a stampa (inglese, gotico, greco..), simboli matematici, fregi, svolazzi e filetti, un assortimento di vignette con vari soggetti di carattere religioso, floreale, araldico... Interessante la parte che illustra i diversi stili di carattere riportando frasi legate alla storia del Modenese. Inconsueto trovare anche la parte dedicata ai fregi, quasi mai presenti in questo tipo di manuale. Al piatto superiore della brochure piccola mancanza all'angolo inferiore. Ottimo stato.. .

Produzione della carta, fusione dei caratteri, stampa, legatura, ogni strumento, ogni materia prima, ogni aspetto della lavorazione è registrato e documentato da Carena in buona lingua viva, verificata sul posto presso gli artieri dell'epoca in Toscana, dove egli si era recato più volte per lunghi periodi. Da quel tempo, insieme alla tecnologia stessa per produrre i libri, è mutata profondamente la possibilità di stabilire relazioni concettuali tra nomeclature, nonché le modalità di rappresentazione grafica dei legami lessicali. In 8, cm 15 x 23, pp. XVIII + 346. Ritratto xilografico del Marcolini al frontespizio. Mezza tela coeva. In ultima pagina compare la data maggio 1865, infatti la stesura di quest'opera venne iniziata dal Casali nel 1826 ed ebbe una lunga gestazione. Nel frattempo Raffaele De Minicis pubblico' nel 1853 un'analoga opera dedicata alla biografia di questo stampatore con accluso un catalogo delle opere. Decisamente approfondite le schede nelle quali vengono anche dati ordini di rarita' della serie delle pubblicazioni che vanno dal 1530 al 1559. Marcolini, forlivese ma attivo come tipografo a Venezia, fu amico del Barbaro, dello Zeno, dell'Aretino, Sansovino, Dolce, si occupo' anche di orologeria e strumenti scientifici.

Unpaginated 31 leaves all of a weighty card stock or over 60 pages about half with color plates we count 31 but one can quibble about whether one or two of them so qualify. Eleven of these are non-product illustrations -- attempts to capture concepts or abstractions -- the balance being exquisite depictions of the company's fine perfume bottles. The catalogue exudes an unalloyed dreamy luxury in every respects as befits high-end perfume marketing. Cassandre a name adopted by the Ukrainian-born Adolphe Jean-Marie Mouron 1901-1968 -- his parents were French -- was a highly celebrated commercial artist theatrical designer magazine illustrator and poster artist. He worked heavily with the prestige printer Draeger as well as the couturier Lucien Lelong and others. In time he was awarded the French Legion of Honor. Lelong was a top Parisian couturier from the twenties til his retirement in the late forties. He was himself not a designer but rather relied on a stable of designers and among his proteges was Christian Dior. As this catalogue also shows dress designers were branching out into fragrances for a long time; this catalogue predates the creation of Chanel No. 5 by a few years. Light wear to the wraps -- a minor closed tear along the upper joint and some minor wrinkling or creasing to the cover paper. In-8°, pp. 42, brossura editoriale. Bell'esemplare (piccoli restauri al dorso). Estratto dalla "Rivista delle Biblioteche", n. 5-6-7. L'autore (Roma, 1822-Venezia, 1897), prefetto della Marciana di Venezia, ricapitola l'annosa disputa se la priorità dell'invenzione della stampa a caratteri mobili sia da assegnare a Gutenberg o al Coster di Harlem. "..Ma l'attività più cospicua fu quella nei campi della bibliologia, della bibliografia storica e della storia della tipografia. Rispetto a quest'ultima fu un anticastaldiano, cioè oppositore della teoria, allora in voga fra alcuni studiosi italiani, secondo la quale l'invenzione dei caratteri mobili in tipografia non sarebbe dovuta a Gutenberg ma a Panfilo Castaldi da Feltre."
