Figlio di tipografo, raffino' la sua arte costruendo uno stile che insieme al rigore e all'eleganza dell'antica tipografia univa il sentire delle avanguardie (futurismo, l'illustrazione deco' ecc.) e che bene si espresse nei suoi famosi calendari e nella stampa d'occasione.

Il De Lama nel secondo volume compila il primo catalogo bibliografico completo e preciso delle oltre 200 edizioni bodoniane, dal 1768 al 1816, ancora oggi consultato e fondamentale. In - 8°, pp. 343, (1), legatura coeva m. pelle marrone con titolo in oro su dorso a nervetti. Sguardie pavonate. Ex-libris nobiliare. In principio, un calendario a p. pagina per l'anno 1881 inciso in litografia a colori da Virano e Teano, con il testo rubricato in rosso e nero entro bordura perimetrale istoriata e decorata in blu e in verde chiaro. Ritratto xilografico all'antiporta di Francesco De Sanctis, che era allora Presidente dell'Associazione della Stampa Periodica in Italia. Numerose tavv. in b.n. f.t., alcune delle quali su doppia pagina o ripiegate con specimen tipografici relativi a pubblicazioni della stampa periodica. In fine, una tavola ripiegata con tabella circolare impressa in rosso e in nero del numero dei giornali e delle riviste periodiche "che si pubblicavano alla fine del 1880 e data della fondazione del più antico fra essi in ciascuna provincia". Ottimo esemplare. La strenna, preceduta da un breve scritto prefatorio desanctisiano, raccoglie testi in prosa e in versi di autori vari, alcuni dei quali tra i più illustri nomi della cultura italiana dell'età umbertina: De Amicis, Imbriani, Guerzoni, Fontana, Torelli, Camillo Boito, Torelli Viollier, Gallina, Neera, Giacosa, Massarani, Collodi, Rapisardi, Yorick (Pietro Coccoluto Ferrigni), Cossa, Ferrari, Panzacchi, Petruccelli della Gattina, Prati, Rovani, Farina, Brofferio, Verdinois; vengono anche pubblicati per la prima volta o ripubblicati testi di autori antecedenti di vari decenni come Pellico, Gioberti, Gabriele Rossetti, Niccolini, ecc. L'ultima parte concerne i giornali e i giornalisti in Italia, con abbondanza di aneddoti sulle vicende della stampa periodica nel nostro paese.
