Poster size is 23" high X 31" wide. The exhibition was curated by Jeffrey Deitch. Un volume (20x27 cm) di 160 fogli, comprendenti anche biglietti, foglietti, fotografie, reperti di polizia, pezzetti di stoffa, impronte digitali, telegrammi, buste, ecc, il tutto su differenti carte, nelle dimensioni di un dossier di polizia. In pratica il volume di presenta come l'incartamento sul quale lavora il detective per risolvere un delitto avvenuto su un piroscafo al largo di Miami. Quindi non una narrazione lineare, ma un insieme di documenti che portano infine alla soluzione del giallo. -La copertina originale è in cartoncino con titolo bicolore, blu e rosso e la dicitura: “Dennis Wheatley presenta un romanzo poliziesco ideato da J.G. Links”. La pubblicazione comparve come “Supplemento al num. 95 del 23 giugno 1937, Anno XV, Gialli Economici Mondadori; Pubblicazione quindicinale”. Sul retro della copertina una Nota degli Autori che spiega la inconsueta struttura anche tipografica di questo giallo, tradotto da Alberto Tedeschi. La copertina, legata con un cordino (come i dossier di una volta) presenta strappetti e usure ai margini abbondanti, e mancanze al dorso (in alto). All'interno anche alcune pagine, staccate, hanno strappi ai margini e una delle fotografie ha strappi e mancanze. Ma nel complesso è una buona copia di questo singolare esperimento tipografico della Mondadori, mai più riproposto, e assai difficile da trovare completo, proprio per la presenza di tanti elementi e fogli diversi per dimensioni, colore e natura soggetti. Inoltre i fogli non sono numerati e ciò rende difficile valutare la completezza delle (poche) copie in circolazione (per esempio una delle copie registrate nelle biblioteche Sbn parta di 132 pagine (!) con 15 tavole; altri esemplari vengono descritti sommariamente con “paginazione varia”).

It includes: the names of the citizens alphabetically arranged, with their occupations and places of abode; a list of the streets, alleys, lanes, courts, roads and wharves, banks, insurance companies; national and their societies, literary, scientific and charitable institutions; Custom House Department, Post Office, churches with their pastors and sextons, foreign, consular and other agents, resident abroad and in the United States, &c. There is also a chart of Regulations (for the ringing) of the State House Bell in Case of Fire. Many examples of this directory includes an Almanac, but here that is replaced by: The Will of the Late Stephen Girard, Esq Procured from the Office for the Probate of Wills, with a Short Biography of his Life. Philadelphia: Published by Thomas and Robert Desilver 1832. The controversy over the Will of Stephen Girard (1750-1831) was of great interest in this era. His large estate was divided - with $140,000 given to relatives and charities; $300,000 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania "for internal improvement by canal navigation"; his real estate in Louisiana (208,000 acres) he left to New Orleans; $500,000 he left to Philadelphia to create Delaware Avenue, clean up the waterfront, pave, remove all wooden buildings and other projects to improve the city. The bulk of his estate was left to create what became Girard College, to educate the poor white orphan boys with a trade. His will gives instructions about the College, both physical and administrative. Some of Girard's heirs contested the will in what became a "classic in American legal history, contributing not a little to the clarification of the law of charities" (DAB).
