This book is in Very Good condition and was issued without a dust jacket. <P>This copy is bound in green 3/4th morocco leather and brown figured cloth. <P>This is a First Hardback edition first state with the character's name as Rigaud instead of Blandois on pages 469 470 472 & 474; with NO ads in the book either front or rear and page 371 with signature B2 instead of BB2. <P>The book and its contents are in mostly clean bright condition. The spine ends and corners of the book covers have some light rubbing and wear The cloth book covers have spots of rubbing. The text pages are clean and bright though there are spots of foxing throughout. <P>"Little Dorrit is a novel by Charles Dickens originally published in serial form between 1855 and 1857. The story features Amy Dorrit youngest child of her family born and raised in the Marshalsea prison for debtors in London. Arthur Clennam encounters her after returning home from a 20-year absence ready to begin his life anew. The novel satirises the shortcomings of both government and society including the institution of debtors' prisons where debtors were imprisoned unable to work until they repaid their debts. The prison in this case is the Marshalsea where Dickens’ own father had been imprisoned. Dickens is also critical of the lack of a social safety net the treatment and safety of industrial workers as well the bureaucracy of the British Treasury in the form of his fictional "Circumlocution Office".
