DICKENS CHARLES; LYNNE BROOM ILLUSTRATIONS
The Posthumous Papers Of The Pickwick Club
Coward-McCann New York: 1950. Hardcover with dustjacket. Good condition. The Pickwick Papers and its ensuing popularity came about almost by accident. Dickens a struggling young writer was commissioned to write captions for a series of hunting prints being done by the artist Robert Seymour. Slowly the prints began to take a secondary role as Dickens allowed his imagination free rein. Before the project was completed Seymour committed suicide and a second artist had to be commissioned. By this time however The Pickwick Papers had taken London by storm. Coward-McCann, New York: 1950 hardcover
