This is based on the real experiences of John Stalker then the deputy chief constable of Manchester who was ordered to conduct an investigation into the murders of Gervaise McKerr and two other unarmed IRA men in 1982 only to discover that it was the British security service itself which had killed them. Stalker was removed from the inquiry shortly before his report was due--and in fact just as he was expecting to receive a tape from MI5 relating to the murders. To this day his report has never been published. And although it is not within the time frame of this movie Stalker was later falsely accused of a crime and had to end his police career. Carole plays a rich bored socialite but when her playboy husband dies of a heart attack in the arms of another woman she re-evaluates her priorities and suddenly is attracted to the selfless doctor who treated him a decent hard-working man quite different from the usual entitled society brats with whom she has previously surrounded herself. Hollywood: Paramount Pictures 1931. First White script for the 1931 Pre-Code film. An early starring performance for Carole Lombard made prior to her 1934 star breakthrough in Howard Hawks' "Twentieth Century." Included is a studio still photograph of Lombard and Lilyan Tashman from the film with the unusual feature of having an associated quote from the scene added to the negative at the bottom margin. In this romance an aspiring writer encounters a wealthy publisher who gives him an advance on the first two chapters of his book. Meanwhile his wife helps out by becoming a chorus girl in a nightclub revue. Tall white studio self wrappers noted as TALL WHITE SCRIPT on the front wrapper rubber-stamped production No. 1794 dated February 24th 1931 with credits for playwrights Hackett and Goodrich screenwriters Kober and Unsell director Sutherland and producer Sheldon. 146 leaves mimeograph duplication with blue revision pages throughout dated 2-25-31. Mockery Terror The Harelip Original screenplay for the 1927 film
Beverly Hills CA: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer MGM 1927. Draft script for the 1927 silent film "Mockery" seen here under two early draft titles "Terror" and "The Harelip." <br/><br/>Lon Chaney is a half-witted Russian peasant who is promised food and a place to live if he escorts a Countess Bedford safely home. He does so despite becoming caught up in the Bolshevik revolution and even moreso in a case of terminally unrequited love for the countess. <br/><br/>Danish director Christensen is best known for his avant garde work and in particular the seminal documentary "Haxan: Witchcraft through the Ages" 1922. Between 1922 and 1929 Christensen made films for MGM and Warner Brothers/First National this being one of his last silent films. Like many of the films from the silent era many unusually bold turns are made with many touches that affirm Christensen's status as an auteur. The film was rediscovered and restored in the 1970s. <br/><br/>Tan titled wrappers rubber-stamped copy No. 0378 and production No. 1608 dated May 18 1927 with credits for screenwriter Bradley King. Title page integral with the first page of the text dated May 17 1927 with credits for screenwriters Bradley King and Benjamin Christensen. 133 leaves with unnumbered leaves.
