‎Walter Lang director; Dorothy Kingsley Charles Lederer screenwriters; Cole Porter composer; Frank Sinatra Shirley MacLaine Ma‎

‎Two souvenir program variants for Can-Can Two original film programs‎

‎Los Angeles: Twentieth Century-Fox 1960. Two original souvenir film program variants for the 1960 film "Can-Can." Loosely based on the 1953 musical by Abe Burrows and composed by Cole Porter.

This listing contains both a larger folio and a smaller quarto variant for the film both very different programs. The larger program is quite uncommon in stiff color illustrated wrappers. The quarto is the more commonly found variant of the program.

The time-honored romance film trope in which Frank Sinatra plays a gun-shy sap unwilling to marry Can-Can dance club owner Shirley MacLaine until she becomes engaged to someone else that "someone" played here by the intimidating Maurice Chevalier. This time though the age-old story is set on the scintillating backdrop of 1890s Can-Can dancing. Nominated for two Academy Awards.

Though the film substantially changes the plot of the original musical and adds a number of Porter's best-known songs to the film's soundtrack "Can-Can" was the second-highest grossing film of 1960 having been beaten out only by "Ben-Hur."

Folio contains 28 pages in illustrated wrappers including a front flap saddle stapled 11.5 x 15 inches. Good plus with two two-inch long closed tears at the head and tail of the spine with a few small closed tears and light rubbing at the extremities. Still both an attractive and uncommon item.

Quarto contains 16 pages saddle stapled 8.5 x 11.25 inches. Very Good plus.

Hirschhorn p. 370. Twentieth Century-Fox unknown books‎

‎Walter Salles director; Jack Kerouac author; Jose Rivera Harold Manning Michael Herr Francis Ford Coppola screenwriter; Sam R‎

‎On the Road Original screenplay for the 2012 film‎

‎New York: IFC Films 1980. Early unused Draft script for the 2012 film.

Francis Ford Coppola bought the rights for Jack Kerouac's seminal generation-defining novel in 1980 for $95000. Coppola then struggled to find a screenwriter to adapt the book as well as find a director. Eventually he settled on screenwriter Jose Rivera. Before that however he had drafts written under his direction from Michael Herr Barry Gifford Russell Banks and even one himself with son Roman. This draft is one of the first attempts of Coppola to adapt the novel which would not be made into a film until 2012 using Rivera's script under the direction of Walter Salles and produced by Coppola. The film version was first proposed in 1957 by Kerouac himself who wrote a one page appeal to actor Marlon Brando asking Brando to play the part of Dean Moriarty while Kerouac would play Sal Paradise. He never received a response from Brando.

After his father is buried Sal Paradise becomes acquainted with Dean Moriarty and along with his friend Carlo Marx decides to experience America from behind the wheel of a car rather than in the dusty classrooms of Columbia University.

Set in America shot on location in Canada America and Mexico.

Yellow untitled wrappers. Title page present noted as Second Draft with credits for screenwriters Francis Coppola and Michael Herr. 176 leaves with last page of text numbered 174. Xerographically duplicated. Pages Near Fine wrapper Very Good plus bound with three gold brads. IFC Films unknown books‎

‎I Loved You Wednesday Two original publicity photographs of Warner Baxter‎

‎N.p.: Fox Film Corporation 1933. Two vintage publicity photographs of Warner Baxter one double weight photograph and one keybook photograph circa early 1930s each with two Fox Films stamps on the verso one crediting photographer Ray Jones and one for actor Baxter and a mimeo snipe on the verso of the keybook photograph announcing Baxter's next film "I Loved You Wednesday" released in 1933.

From the archive of noted Hollywood still photographer Ray Jones. Born in Wisconsin on January 1 1901 Jones worked for Paramount Pictures in the early 1930s and went on to be the head of the still photography department at Universal Pictures in 1935 where he worked well into the 1950s.

Warner Baxter was a popular film actor who starred in over 100 films between 1914 and 1950. In 1936 he starred in John Ford's "The Prisoner of Shark Island" largely considered his finest role. By the late 1930s he openly talked of retiring from the industry and by the mid-1940s suffered a nervous breakdown after which he began to largely focus on film series work in order to reduce his stress most notably in the "Crime Doctor" mysteries a series of low-budget mysteries produced by Columbia Pictures from 1943-1949.

Double-weight photograph 7.75 x 9.75 inches. Near Fine.

Keybook photograph 7.75 x 9.75 inches. Very Good plus with a small chip to the top left corner and some modest tearing at the top hole punches. Fox Film Corporation unknown‎
