Greed Original herald for the 1924 film's premiere
Beverly Hills CA: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer MGM 1924. Vintage herald or broadside for the 1924 film. A clever and excessively rare bit of advertisement designed as a "Wanted" poster pulling together the main character from Frank Norris' novel John "Doc" McTeague a photo of "McTeague" Gibson Gowland and mention of a specific screening at San Francisco's Imperial Theatre on Market Street today the Market Street Cinema. The first cut of Stroheim's "Greed" was a mammoth 9.5-hour presentation. All that survives today is a restored slightly choppy but coherent 240-minute version supplanted with still photographs that conveys to the viewer the unimaginable grandeur of the original. Very little paper advertisement has survived. The only poster that has ever surfaced is a disappointing window card showing none of the characters and this remarkable broadside the only example we have ever encountered. 13 x 6 inches. Near Fine with a couple of tiny internal tears overall extremely clean and with no paper loss. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer [MGM] unknown

W. Somerset Maugham story; David Goodis and James Gunn screenwriters; Vincent Sherman director; Ann Sheridan Lew Ayres Zachary
The Unfaithful Original Film Pressbook
Burbank CA: Warner Brothers 1947. Original Pressbook for the 1947 film noir.

A little-seen noir with an interesting history. Based on the 1940 film "The Letter" which is in turn an adaptation of W. Somerset Maugham's 1926 short story of the same title first collected in "The Casuarina Tree". Written for the screen by David Goodis and James Gunn. The film infamously failed to give credit to Maugham's story though the fact that it was so studiously reworked probably has much to do with the author's lack of interest in making a legal matter of it.

Ann Sheridan plays a woman in distress accused of lying about her connection with a murdered man is eventually acquitted in court. Her character presents a unique picture of the noir female being neither afraid for her sanity or her life and yet a victim of postwar instability and infidelity in the context of being a military wife Silver et al.

16 pages saddle stapled folded once 11 x 17 inches. Very Good plus with slight separation at the spine a few tiny closed tears and light stressing to the fold.

Selby US. Silver Classic Noir. Spicer US. Warner Brothers unknown books

Ashes and Diamonds Three original photographs from US release of the 1958 film
New York: Janus Films 1961. Three vintage studio still photographs from the US release of the 1958 film. Based on the 1948 novel by Jerzy Andrzejewski. The last film in the "war" trilogy that began Polish director Wajda's career as a director preceded by "Pokolenie" 1955 and "Kanal" 1957. A strong anti-war statement framed in the personae of two men given orders - from the part of the resistance that opposes the new Communist regime and on the last day of World War II in Poland - to murder a leading communist.
