br. La polemica è una discussione tra sordi? Di fronte ai conflitti sopra le righe e le contese urlate dei talk show televisivi, la polemica sembra uno sforzo finalizzato solo alla prevaricazione dell'altro. Ma le cose non stanno così. La difficoltà, quindi, è saper fare polemica per rispondere alla sfida della democrazia: legittimare il dissenso e non porre fine alle controversie. In queste pagine il lettore viene condotto in una palestra dove allenare le proprie capacità polemiche: attraverso principi, strategie e correttivi, imparerà ad affrontare ogni discussione dando ragione delle proprie ragioni. L'obiettivo è che in ogni dibattito polemico vinca la ragione migliore, senza mascherare divergenze e contrasti. Indirizzato agli insegnanti delle scuole superiori, un manuale per tutti quelli che, su una qualunque tematica, vogliano intraprendere una "corsa agli armamenti" di tipo comunicativo. L'autore ricostruisce il processo che condusse il latino - originariamente una varietà di indoeuropeo parlata nell'VIII secolo a.C. nella bassa valle del Tevere e sui colli Albani - a differenziarsi geograficamente in una serie di varietà linguistiche, le lingue romanze, che sono oggi in uso in gran parte dell'Europa, nell'America centrale e meridionale e altrove. Di questo processo l'autore illustra le diverse fasi, offrendo un quadro sintetico delle caratteristiche linguistiche degli idiomi che ne derivarono e fornendo alcuni possibili modelli d'interpretazione delle innovazioni avvenute.
