‎This Hunger / Limitation of 50. 1945 First and Limited Edition Signed by Anais Nin‎

‎New York: Gemor Press 1945 Very Good. See scans and description. New York: Gemor Press 1945. First Edition. The 50 limitation not the 1000 limitation. Signed by Nin and by illustrator "Ian Hugo" that being also her first husband Hugh Parker Guiller. #28 of the very short limited edition of 50 not the simultaneous edition of 1000 copies with color wood block prints uncut etruria paper and numbering-with-signature by Nin. Octavo 185 pp. through the last wood block print followed by the limitation page and endpapers. Some soiling to covers cleanable but I won't do that light toning to the interior some foxing opposite the hand-executed color wood block prints. In addition to being one of fifty now-apparently quite-rare copies of the shorter limited run this copy was signed and inscribed by Hugo on the ffep "To Leo Katz with the admiration and appreciation of Ian Hugo" in hand print not script see scans. Depending on which Leo Katz that may have been - presumably the one who wrote the foreword to Hugo's "New Eyes On The Art Of Engraving" in which case affording some association status as well. Verso of the ffep has the penned words "Leo Katz Art Library / August 1953". Presumably also de-accessioned from the Norfolk Museum of Arts and Sciences those words appearing on the title page. Concerns several adventurous women and may stem from Nin's noted diary statement:"Oh God I know no joy as great as a moment of rushing into a new love no ecstasy like that of a new love. I swim in the sky; I float; my body is full of flowers flowers with fingers giving me acute acute caresses sparks jewels quivers of joy dizziness such dizziness. Music inside of one drunkenness. Only closing the eyes and remembering and the hunger the hunger for more more the great hunger the voracious hunger and thirst." Rather singular very collectible Nin piece. ‎NIN Anais.‎

‎Under a Glass Bell and other stories.‎

‎1948. n.p: Gemor Press 1948. 8vo. illustrated paper wrappers with engravings by Ian Hugo; folding advertisement tipped in; pp. 101 iii; spine a little rubbed and darkened else a clean copy internally. First softcover edition as stated inscribed by the author thus: "For Mr. Aage Dons. My grandfather was Danish - his name was Thorwald Christensen. He went to Cuba as Consul married a French woman from New Orleans stayed there. My brother is called Thorwald. I have relations in Denmark and I love Isak Dinesen - I hope these tales remind you a little of her - ! Anais Nin". This collection of stories broke the traditional American boundaries of social realism. With a focus on the unconscious Nin began writing at a time when the theories of Freud and other psychoanalysts were relatively new. As she explains in The Novel of the Future much of her work has followed Jung's dictum of 'Proceed from the dream outward'. She writes; "The dream was to be the genesis the birthplace of our life. The novels were to be the constant description of going into life and back into the dream to seek the self when it lost its way. In a sense I continued to say: the dream is the key the source the birthplace of our most authentic self". Contents: Houseboat; Under A Glass Bell; Je Suis Le Plus Malade des Surrealists; Ragtime; The Labyrinth; The All-Seeing; Birth; The Mouse; The Mohican; Through the Streets of My Own Labyrinth; The Eye's Journey; The Child Born Out of the Fog; and Hejda. The last 6 are published here for the first time. Aage Dons was a Danish writer. It is unknown how he and Nin were introduced. Harty 1976. paperback‎
