Men at War : The Best War Stories of All Time
New York: Crown Publishers 1942. Near Fine condition in a Very Good dust jacket. SEE PHOTOS. Square and tight. Inner hinges are perfect. Sharp corners. The jacket has a little fraying at the head of the spine and some light rubbing at the edges. The top of the jacket's front inner flap has been fairly aggressively price-clipped removing a piece about 3 inches wide by 7/8th inch tall. Now protected by a removable Brodart clear plastic sleeve temporarily removed for photos. The yellow-tinted top edge shows some tiny spots. No owner's name or bookplate. No remainder mark. Pages are clean. No underlining. No highlighting. No margin notes. The book itself is a first printing of the first edition with all points listed by Hanneman A19a including the publisher's "A" on the copyright page. The black dust jacket is printed in gray and red. While this copy's dust jacket agrees entirely with Hanneman's too brief description of the first edition's jacket it is later -- probably a second issue. The front flap has a brief quotation from Infantry Journal that is not found on the first issue jacket. The quotation reads: "The finest anthology of military writing ever assembled." Here are 82 great war stories including 3 by Hemingway himself. Hemingway also contributed a 21-page Introduction. Bound in the original smooth black cloth brightly lettered in gold on the spine. Complete with dust jacket. Hanneman A19a. First printing in 2nd issue dust jacket. Hardcover. Near Fine condition/Very Good DJ price clipped. 8vo. xxxi 1072pp. Great Packaging Fast Shipping.
