A complete 41 volume set in near fine condition beautifully bound by Bradstreet's in 3/4 leather with six compartments and five raised bands to spines with bright gilt details and title. Spines sunned. Binding and hinges are excellent internally remarkably bright and clean without marks and no foxing. Nicely illustrated. Cabinet limited edition #172 of 1000 copies. His father was the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury 1921-1932. Mellon's Rokeby Stables owned many successful racehorses including Kentucky Derby Winner Sea Hero. He was a trustee of the National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame. American version originally printed in 1867 but this is one of three possible later versions either 1873 1875 or 1878 according to their size. Malan p.279 Text in two columns. The book is dedicated by Hugo to the island of Guernsey where he spent 19 years in exile.
