‎Paris : Éditions Lapina, collection "Balzaciana" N°2, 15 mai 1927. Un des 1500 exemplaires sur papier vergé à la forme des Papeteries d'Arches, numérotés de 38 à 1537 (N°1157). Bristol autographe contrecollé de l'auteur à l'historien de la littérature et philologue Abel Lefranc (1862-1952) : "Marcel Bouteron Bibliothécaire de l'Institut de France 1, rue de Seine : présente ses respects à Mr Abel Lefranc et lui envoie avec ses voeux de bonne année ce petit volume. le traducteur est un de ses amis et sera très honoré si Mr Lefranc veut bien lire cet ouvrage et le cas échéant - s'il lui semble bon- en parler ou en écrire. M.B." Petit livre non coupé 14,5x10cm, couverture rempliée 3 rabats, 50 pages avec 2 illustrations en noir sous serpentes d'un vase en verre de Bohème offert à Balzac par la Comtesse Ida de Bocarné [sic] en 1844 (2 faces du verre), notice sur les illustrations. [BE, mais petites rousseurs en bas de l'étui, visibles sur la photo]‎

‎La marquise Ida du Chasteler (1797-1873), comtesse de Beaucarmé, peintre héraldiste belge, laissa son nom dans l'histoire littéraire pour avoir dessiné pour Balzac les blasons imaginaires des familles de "La Comédie humaine". Celui-ci lui avait dédié son roman "Le Colonel Chabert". Sur ce vase de 1843 qu'elle lui avait offert, elle avait représenté sur une face le blason de l'écrivain et sur l'autre, deux femmes dont l'une, debout, couronne un buste de Balzac pendant que l'autre, genou en terre, écrit sur une grand page les mots "La Comédie humaine". Mme de Bocarmé lui vouait un véritable culte passionnel, non payé en retour. Balzac avait beau reconnaître et admirer son savoir, il la trouvait largement encombrante. Dans son "Balzac en pantoufles (1856), l'écrivain Léon Gozlan (1803-1866), secrétaire de Balzac, la dépeint ainsi : "Elle n'était plus jeune, mais c'était la femme qui sait tout, qui parle admirablement de tout, elle ravissait Balzac par son érudition de fée. Ce qui n'empêchait pas l'écrivain de trouver son adoratrice collante et d'être un peu goujat, ainsi en médisant d'elle auprès de Madame Hanska : Cette espèce de Bettina a quarante-cinq ans et en paraît cinquante, elle a des dents rattachées par des fils d'or."‎
