‎Rare printing of Doctor Faust's chapbook in Dutch. Woodcut on title, 58 (repeated) woodcut illustrations. A total of 60 vignettes. Complete. More recent paper covers. These are somewhat rubbed with significant rubbing and loss to the spine. Written number to the front cover. The date c.1750 is printed on the remnant of a catalogue label stuck to the front cover. The impressions of the engravings are somewhat are somewhat blurred. P. 41, repeated on p. 76, the illustrations are not woodcuts but metalcuts. The shape of the heads of the nails with which the plates were mounted on wood are printed on many of them. A nice example. 86 (2) pp. 205 x 165 mm (8 x 6œ inches). ‎The Sacred rule for the Order of St. Bridget with the additions, the explanation of the Order & Rule and the Rule of St. Augustine. From the Library of the Syon Abbey Bridgetine convent. Original quarter calf with dark blue buckram boards. Titles to the spine. Label of Syon Abbey to the rear board. Text is in old fashioned Gothic German. The binding is a little rubbed with some loss to the surface layer of the leather. Binding is still firm and holding together well. The paper itself is of a fairly cheap quality, but is clean and tidy throughout. Overall a nice example of this very scarce item. No copies on COPAC, and only one in the KVK catalogue of German and Austrian holdings. 141, [x] pp.‎

‎Edwardian Children's puzzle game‎

‎London 1910‎

‎An attractive children's game. There a blocks of wood, with 6 paintings pasted onto the six sides, when placed together they make a picture showing children playing. Held in a wooden box, which once have a clasp (now broken). There are 4 chromolithographed illustrations in the box, and a fifth is pasted onto the lid. We suspect there was a sixth, now missing. The blocks have rubbing to the corners, with slight loss of image. The lithographs are on thin paper, and has small nicks and tears to the edges, but still attractive. Darkening to the image on the front board. Overall, an attractive game, showing signs of regular use. This was clearly British, from the red post box on the image to the lid of the box. The dating is from the children's clothing, particularly the sailor suit on the cover. 150 x 190 mm (6 x 7œ inches).‎

A young woman holds her hat against the wind, whilst her skirt (cut to the "Italian Length" billows. Nice colouring. Watermark to paper. A touch of edge wear to the large margins. Engraving 350 mm x 195 mm. Size in total: 460 mm x 300 mm‎

‎Hand Painted Mother of Pearl fan‎

‎France N/A 1875 Bel exemple d'éventail peint à la main du milieu à la fin du XIXe siècle. Le cadre est en nacre percée et dorée. La feuille est en vélin très fin ou en papier. Elle est peinte à la gouache de chaque côté. D'un côté, une femme est assise sur un trône doré, entourée de servantes et de chérubins. De l'autre côté, une scène alpine avec un village et des villageois. Les deux sont bordés de dorures et de décorations. Le cadre présente des traces de réparation sur les deux pièces extérieures (voir photographies). Le cadre est orné d'un rivet en acier et en strass. Un bel exemple de tenue féminine du XIXe siècle. Longueur : 27 cm. La largeur ouverte est d'environ 45 cm. Il y a quelques petites déchirures sur le papier de l'éventail, qui n'affectent pas les images. L'éventail est livré dans sa boîte d'origine en carton et couverte de velours vert. Celle-ci est un peu fendue sur les bords et présente quelques traces d'usure, mais il s'agit d'un objet rare à trouver avec l'éventail.‎

‎A beautiful example of a mid to late Nineteenth Century hand painted fan. The frame is in pierced and gilded mother-of-pearl. The leaf is in either very thin vellum or paper. It is painted in gouache to each side. One one side is a female sat upon a gild throne surrounded by hand maidens and cherubs. To the other is an alpine scene of a village and villagers. Both are edged by gilt and decoration. The frame shows evidence of repair to the two outside pieces (see photographs). Steel and Rhinestone rivet to the frame. A lovely example of Nineteenth Century ladies attire. Length 27 cm. Open width is approximately 45 cm. There are a couple of small tears to the paper of the fan, but not affecting the images. The fan comes in its original cardboard and green velvet covered box. This is a little split to the edges and with some edgewear, but still a scarce item to find alongside the fan. .‎

‎Tours Alfred Mame et fils 1884 Un bel exemplaire de ce livre d'heures. Plein maroquin vert foncé d'origine avec des initiales de monogramme en métal incrusté (argent terni ?) sur le premier plat. Toutes les tranches sont dorées. Les pages de garde sont en soie moirée verte, et les intérieurs sont ornés d'abondantes dentelles dorées. Date dorée du 12 février 1889 à l'intérieur de la première planche. Au verso de la première page de garde se trouve une petite étiquette de relieur indiquant que l'ouvrage a été réalisé par E & A Lesort de Paris. La reliure est en parfait état, avec juste un peu de frottement sur les bords du dos. Le titre est entouré d'une bordure gravée sur bois, les illustrations gravées sur bois et la décoration de la bordure ont été réalisées par A. GUSMAN d'après A. QUEYROY, 516 pages, le livre mesure 16 cm x 13 cm. Cet exemplaire est daté de l'avant-propos de l'archevêque de Tours (1884). Le livre est présenté dans un coffret en bois doublé de soie verte et de velours. L'intérieur du coffret est en excellent état de propreté. Le couvercle en soie matelassée porte l'écusson doré de E. & A. Lesort à l'intérieur. Les charnières internes en soie verte sont frottées et effilochées, mais elles tiennent bon. A l'extérieur, le coffret recouvert de cuir est plutôt frotté. La feuille de cuir supérieure de la boîte, qui portait également les initiales du propriétaire, est détachée et n'est que partiellement présente. Dans l'ensemble, la boîte a très bien protégé le livre. Dimensions de la boîte : 20 cm x 16,5 cm.‎

‎A beautiful copy of this book of hours. Original dark green full morocco with onlaid metal (dulled silver?) monogram initials to the front board. All edges gilt. Beautiful green moire silk free endpapers, with profuse gilt dentelles to the inside boards. Gilt date of 12 Fevrier 1889 to the inside front board. To the verso of the front end paper is a small binder's label marking this as the work of E & A Lesort of Paris. The binding is in near perfect condition, with just a hint of rubbing to the edges of the spine. Title within wood engraved border, wood engraved illustrations and border decoration throughout by A. GUSMAN after A. QUEYROY, 516 pages, Book is 16cm x 13cm. This copy is dated from the foreword by the Archbishop of Tours (1884). The book is held within a green silk and velvet lined wooden box. The inside of the box is in excellent clean condition. The padded silk lid has the gilt crest of E. & A. Lesort to the inside. Green silk internal hinges are rubbed and threadbare, but holding. Outside the leather covered box is rather rubbed. The top leather sheet of the box, which also had the owner's initials to it, is detached and only partially present. Overall though, the box has done it's role of protecting the book very well. Box dimensions 20cm x 16.5cm. .‎

Le livre est accompagné d'une suite complète d'illustrations en couleurs et d'une seconde suite en noir et blanc. Cela devrait également être accompagné d'une aquarelle originale - mais celle-ci n'est pas présente. Etui orange/rouge, avec un peu de frottement mais pas de gros dégâts. Chemise en faux vélin crème contenant le livre à couverture souple et 2 suites. La couverture du livre est recouverte de glassine. Il y a un petit trou dans la glassine (probablement là où un autocollant a été retiré). Sinon impeccable. Le texte lui-même est lâche dans les fronces, avec les illustrations en couleur de Dratz partout. 243 [iii], p. 270 par 235 mm‎

‎Beautiful copy of this numbered limited comic approach to the French Penal Code. This is one of only 50 copies which are on papier annam de Rives. The book comes with a full suite of the illustrations in colour, and a second suite in black and white. This should also come with an original watercolour - but this is not present. Orange / red slipcase, with a little rubbing but no major damage. cream faux vellum folder containing the soft covered book and 2 suites. The wrapper of the book is covered in glassine. There is a small hole in the glassine (presumably where a sticker has been removed). Otherwise immaculate. The text itself is loose in gathers, with Dratz's colour illustrations throughout. 243 [iii], pp. 270 by 235mm (10Ÿ by 9Œ inches).‎

Les coins ont été restaurés et le dos a été recouvert d'un papier similaire. Une bande de tissu a été posée sur le dos. La reliure est donc solide. Les couvertures sont un peu plus sombres, mais restent présentables. Les couvertures intérieures (avant et arrière) ont été imprimées avec la clé de rimes de l'ouvrage, les 8 feuilles sont recouvertes de tissu (donne l'impression d'être recouvertes de papier peint) et les pages sont donc imprimées au recto ou au verso seulement. Chaque page est chromo-lithographiée avec les illustrations des lettres de l'alphabet. Celles-ci sont un peu assombries, mais en bon état. 240 x 190 mm‎

‎One of the "Warne's large picture toy books" series. Original soft covers These have been restored to the corners and backed onto similar paper. A fabric strip has been laid onto the spine. As a result, the binding is firm. A little darkening to the covers, but still presentable. The inside covers (front and rear) have been printed with the rhyming key to the work, the 8 leaves are cloth backed (gives the impression of being backed with wallpaper) and so the pages are printed to either recto or verso only. Each page is chromo-lithographed with the illustrations of the letters of the alphabet. These are a little darkened, but in sound condition. 240 x 190 mm .‎

‎This exquisite watercolour painting has a 19th Century wedding congratulation message adhered to it. The painting is signed, but we cannot decipher its creator's name. The wedding dedication is dated 1895, so the painting pre dates this. Blank verso. Size: 405 x 305 mm (16 x 12 inches) .‎

Emanuel van Meteren or Meteeren was a Flemish historian and consul for 'the Traders of the Low Countries' in London. His work was important in establishing the innocence of Anne Boleyn. Clean and tidy print. Nice impresson. Lightly attached to a modern backing card. 290 x 190 mm (11œ x 7œ inches).‎

The first pate is the text / permissions and authorisations signed and dated (with official stamp) by individuals involved with the project. ( 4 different individuals have written comments and signed the plan). This seems to have been drawn up to accompany a cleaning / repair project for the roads and bridges of the area. Attractive hand coloured plan of the area, with extra section added on paper (see photos) showing the whole of the commune of Ports, including sections of the river Vienne. The plan is drawn on tracing paper / glassine, pasted to stiff card. This is a little darkened, but without significant flaws. Nice detailing and quality of work. Despite the title, there are no bridges in this commune. 290 by 1820mm (11œ by 71Ÿ inches). .‎
