THE ISRAELI AERIAL ATTACK OF JUNE 7, 1981: AGGRESSION OR SELF - DEFENSE UNDER INTERNATIONAL LAW?
1st Edition. Stapled, 4to. 22 pages ; 28 cm. Typescript (photocopy, as published) . "Presented at the Hearing of the Committee on Foreign Relations of the United States Senate on June 25, 1981." Professor Mallison was a longtime friend, and associate of Rabbi Elmer Berger. Together, they were able to win several concrete changes to US Foreign Policy, and shape the political narrative on Jewish-Arab relations in the middle east. It was because of his specialty in international law that he was sought out by Rabbi Elmer Berger, then director of the American Council for Judaism. The Council opposed the claim of the newly created State of Israel to speak for the Jewish People everywhere. Together Rabbi Berger and Professor Mallison persuaded the Department of State to write a letter stating that it does not regard the 'Jewish people' concept as a concept of international law. " (Washington Report on Middle East Affairs, 1998) SUBJECT(S) : Diplomatic relations. Israel -- Foreign relations -- Iraq. OCLC lists 4 copies worldwide (Johns Hopkins, HUC, Univ of Exeter, UT Austin) , none in New York City, and only one copy on the east coast. Slight Edgewear. Rusty Staple. Very good- condition. With the opening of Dropsie College in 1909, Malter assumed the chair of talmudic literature which he occupied to the end of his life. Mamin-Sibiriak D. N. (Dmitry Narkisovich)
HANE'LES MAYS´E'LEKH
(ft) 1st edition (1918) . OCLC lists another Yiddish edition issued in Bialystok that same year, but no actual copies (paper, microfiche, or otherwise) are listed, so it may not exist. Original Publishers boards with small publishers design, 8vo, 32 pages ; 22 cm. In Yiddish. With seven illustrations throughout the text. Series: K? Ooperativer gezelshaft Idisher folksfarlag , Nr. 3. Translated into Yiddish by D. (David) Roykhl. Mamin-Sibiriak (1852-1912) can only be considered one of the leading figures in the literary history of Siberia. Despite the great popularity of his works during his own lifetime, Mamin-Sibiriak fell into obscurity during the Soviet period: the attempts of Stalin-era critics to examine their content in a purely revolutionary light could not be reconciled with the authors devotion to his native Urals
. Large numbers of towns in the former Soviet Union were named after this writer, and still bear his name, while two museums devoted to him continue research and display his manuscripts in his native Ekaterinburg
. Mamin-Sibiriaks gentle writing style led him to become a highly skilled writer of childrens [sic] fiction
. [and the] author also produced a large body of short stories with a focus on moral questions; some of the best of them are comparable to Chekhovs work, but from a different cultural and psychological space
.. Mamin-Sibiriak himself was an author not just of fiction, but of radical journalism; he aligned himself with a tendency known as(oblastnichestvo) , a proto-secessionist worldview seeing Siberia as a separate entity from European Russia. His works are therefore of genuine importance to historians
. In his diaries Chekhov records his surprise to discover on his way to Sakhalin that in the Urals Mamin-Sibiriak had eclipsed even Tolstoy [in popularity]. Mamin-Sibiriaks concern for the peasantry, his interest in the moral aspects of industrial development in the Urals, and his interest in personal spiritual redemption tell us not only about the authors own attitudes. They can also illuminate the attitudes of his readers [since] Literature can only be circular, as there is a constant mutual exchange of material between author and reader (Ellard, 2011) . Which begs the question, why was presumably Siberian-nationalist childrens literature being translated into Yiddish at the beginning of the Soviet period? SUBJECT(S) : Children's stories, Yiddish. OCLC lists only 1 copy of this 1st edition (Harvard) and, as indicated, no actual copies of the supposed Bialystok 1918 edition. Early Soviet period Yiddish Childrens books continue to command very high prices at auction. Old ex-library with usual markings. Some wear to boards, old dampstain to margins, browning as expected, but a solid good copy. (SPEC-35-5)

FLOWS OF FAITH: RELIGIOUS REACH AND COMMUNITY IN ASIA AND THE PACIFIC
Hardback. 8vo. XV, 238 pages. 24 cm. First edition. Unique local transformations of the practice of established religions in Asia and the Pacific are juxtaposed with the emergence of new religious movements whose incidence is growing across the region. In Flows of Faith, the contributing authors take as their starting point questions of how religions manifest outside their cultural boundaries and provide the basis for new social identities, political movements and social transformations. With fresh insights into the globalization of beliefs, their local inflections, and their institutionalization, the authors explore how old and new religions work in different settings, and how their reception and membership challenge orthodox understandings of religion and culture. The chapters set in Asia, the Pacific, Australia, and the US illustrate the contrasts and commonalities of these belief systems, and their allegiances and networks in the region and beyond. They include new religious movements Falun Gong, Brahma Kumaris, the Hare Krishna movement, based in East and South Asia with outreach posts in Australia and the U. S. and established old religions Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism and Islam that are revitalized and recreated in different settings and places. Flows of Faith describes the transnational reaches of faith. Religious practices and their local manifestations track the movement of peoples, through mission outreach, flight, migration, and pilgrimage. In each new setting, religions are shaped by and in turn shape political and cultural forces, proving that they are resilient and generative, originary and distinctive. The volume is a major contribution, providing readers with a fresh and creative approach into the living experience of religious communities in a contemporary globalised world. -Publishers Description. Subjects: Anthropology of religion. Anthropology of religion. Religion. Pacific Area Religion. Brand New. New Condition. (SPRINGER-1-17) xx
