Questi venti racconti, che sono riuniti sotto il titolo di "Avventure di un seduttore mancato", sono legati insieme dalla comune tematica afferente all'eros, ma va subito chiarito che si tratta di un amore per lo più disastrato e bislacco, ancor più del celeberrimo contrasto d'amore di Cielo D'Alcamo o della sfortuna in galante patita dallo spadaccino poeta Cyrano De Bergerac. Qui siamo di fronte a una geremiade di anonimi personaggi maschili, quasi tutti già un po' avanti negli anni, con un iter erotico alle spalle da Miles gloriosus, cioè un poco fanfarone, più illusorio che non reale. A volte ci sono anche matrimoni falliti, compagne che abbandonano il nostro protagonista lasciandolo a leccarsi le ferite. Il racconto si apre quasi sempre con la presentazione del nome e della professione del protagonista, come se fosse l'apparizione sul boccascena del personaggio teatrale, cui è affidata la pièce che verrà recitata.

Good. - sc The 7-3/4 inch high by 9-1/2 inch wide image depicts President Franklin Delano Roosevelt seated in his army jeep with his hat off reviewing armed American troops lining the boulevard in Casablanca. Mounted at the bottom of the photograph is a 5 cent memorial US Postage stamp with an inset image of the President with his birth and death dates next to the motto "Freedom of Speech and Freedom from Want and Fear". The stamp is canceled by an illegible postmark stamped on the bottom of the photograph. There is a very tiny tear to the right edge and minor damage to the top edge at left. There is some rubbing and tape remnants to the corners of the verso from mounting. Good. <p>President Roosevelt met in Casablanca with Winston Churchill in January of 1943. 1943. unknown

Roosevelt's photographer for this portrait was Louis Fabian Bachrach Sr. 1881-1963 second in a three generation commercial photography business Bachrach Studios started by his father David Bachrach photographer of Abraham Lincoln at Gettysburg in Baltimore Maryland in 1868; Louis Fabian Bachrach Jr. representing the third generation of the family was best known for his portrait of John F. Signed Framed Embossed Panel Engraving
1944. unbound. Inscribed in a calligrapher's hand: "To E.L. Alperson for his help in the fight against infantile paralysis" no date circa 1944. Alperson 1895 - 1969 was an American film producer at Warner Brothers who later formed Grand National Distributors as an outlet for independent films in the 1940s. In 1942 he became the general manager of RKO Pictures' theater circuit and it is likely that his work with the March of Dimes earned him this personally signed engraving from the President. 13.75 x 10.5 inches set in a gorgeous wood burgundy stained frame measuring 17 x 14 inches. Roosevelt has signed this boldly with a brown fountain pen. The engraving has a few scattered small spots but is still in near fine condition. Evidence suggests that Roosevelt signed this piece in early 1944. In February 1943 motion picture theaters organized a drive to raise funds for the March of Dimes. On his birthday January 30 in 1944 Roosevelt signed lithographs such as this one in order to thank those whose work helped make the drive successful. According to auction records Roosevelt presented a similar engraving to Frank Meyer an executive at Paramout Pictures Corporation. Accompanying Meyer's engraving when it was sold at auction was a copy of a book titled "So They May Walk Again.A Book of good Deeds / Report of Collectors by Motion Picture Theatres / March of Dimes / February 18 to 24 1943 / In Co-Operation with National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis. unknown

This copy #798 was presented to Pennsylvania's first female Secretary of Health Dr. Edith McBride-Dexter with her name stamped in gilt at lower margin of upper board. Albany NY 1932. unbound. 1 page on "State of New York Executive Chamber" letterhead 10.5 x 8 inches Albany New York April 16 1932. Written to powerful New York attorney Frederic R. Coudert whose support was needed in Roosevelt's anticipated run for the Presidency of the United States just three months before the Democratic National Convention in part: ".At least I am grateful for one thing - that you do not class me as a mere politician.As for the League of Nations it is too long a subject for us to discuss on paper but perhaps it may interest you to know that half a dozen people who have been just as strongly for the League as you have after talking with me subscribed to the plan I have outlined to them. For instance Frank Sayre and his wife Jessie Woodrow Wilson spent the night at Hyde Park a week ago and after we talked for an hour completely changed their opinion about my stand. All that I can tell you in this note is that my objective and yours happen to be not merely similar but identical but if you maintain your method of attaining the objective you may get there in twenty years at the earliest or not at all; on the other hand I believe that my method for attaining the same objective will get us there in from five to ten years with far greater certainty. Think that over and for heaven's sake maintain your faith. Remember that it sometimes takes a great courage to hew out a new line. I quote your example: Cleveland T.R. and Wilson did just that." Coudert's support of the League of Nations came about due to the fact that his family law firm had represented the interests of British Government for close to a century and he wanted to be assured that a Roosevelt administration would maintain a strong alliance with England. However seven years later he became a strong isolationist aligning himself with his friend Charles Lindbergh and barely supported the Lend Lease. On the other hand F.D.R. coined the term "United Nations" and made contributions to the original drafted charter.
