"Hilton's Rainbow Murals Perhaps second only to Diamond Head as a Waikiki landmark the rainbow murals adorning the mauka mountain and makai ocean ends of the Village's Rainbow Tower are the world's tallest ceramic murals. Designed by renowned artist Millard Sheets the colorful ceramic tiles climb the entire height of the 31-story tower. By design the murals welcome all visitors to Oahu regardless of their hotel choice; the focal point for the murals is 2.5 miles away which on the ocean side coincides with the air corridor in and out of Honolulu International Airport. An inscription in Hawaiian on the mural reads: "Ho'ola'a ia I na kanaka me o ka uhane o Hawaii" "dedicated to the people and spirit of Hawaii". During 2004 the murals will receive a facelift of sorts - more than 100 tiles that have cracked broken or become badly weathered by the elements over the past 35 years will be replaced with exact recreations that will be impossible to discern from Sheets' original masterpieces. 1968 unknown

Tra i più apprezzati, il Keepsake nel quale Shelley pubblicò quindici racconti. Offerto come strenna natalizia alle giovani donne della borghesia medio-alta, ogni volume era un oggetto di cui fare sfoggio, un dettaglio di stile. Talvolta veniva donato per celebrare un anniversario o una proposta di matrimonio. Rivolto a un pubblico femminile, fu considerato una pubblicazione minore, ma vi contribuirono autori come Southey e Wordsworth, Coleridge e Scott. Nei grandi boschi del Nord, da diciotto anni marito e moglie siedono sulle stesse sedie arancioni che danno sul molo. La superficie del lago riflette, poco prima che affondino, i ricordi di un'irrecuperabile giovinezza. Dall'Arizona all'Indiana, verso l'Illinois, e poi giù attraverso la straniera Santa Fe, lungo le sponde uraniche del Colorado fino alla periferia di Twenty-nine Palms, Sam Shepard snoda la rotta di un viaggio di scoperta e mistificazione, epicedio intonato alla sua America e a ciò che ne resta, nella spietata solitudine di cowboy ormai invecchiati. Brevi sprazzi di quotidianità, frammenti appuntiti di irrealtà, logore istantanee americane che riscrivono il mito del Grande sogno spostandolo al di là della frontiera, dove la visionarietà dell'ambizione rinsecchisce nella desolazione di una waste land allucinata, e la temerarietà dello spirito western languisce nella muta malinconia delle speranze svanite. È questo il paradiso perduto che Shepard riporta alla luce attraverso diciotto brevi prose di dolore, a metà fra narrazione e sceneggiatura, fra commedia e dramma, che intonano il requiem del sogno americano e, insieme, il suo sconfinato miserere. Dalle pagine plumbee del Grande sogno, la wildness delle terre primitive e violente che lo scrittore aveva immortalato in Motel Chronicles sopravvive solo come struggente desiderio, e la Terra promessa dell'Ovest brucia nell'agro odore di bestie macellate. È l'America di oggi, controversa definizione del nuovo millennio, l'America-carnaio che del sesso fa nostalgia, della conquista ansia di smarrimento, della violenza un gesto appassito; è l'America vedova, l'America non luogo, grottesca parodia di se stessa e dei suoi eroi.
