Concepito nei primi mesi del 1946 nel manicomio di Rodez, dove l'autore era rinchiuso già da tre anni, questo lavoro fu dettato a una segretaria fra il novembre di quell'anno e i primi mesi del 1947, quando riuscì a lasciare il manicomio. Il testo, rifiutato dall'editore Broder, vide la luce solo nel 1978, pubblicato da Gallimard. Risultato di una stesura stratificata, di cui il volume dà interamente conto, tra pagine autografe, dettatura, lettere e precisazioni, è una sorta di stenografia in cui psiche e corpo si insidiano e si sopraffanno. Sono questi i testi fondatori della "scrittura vocale" di Artaud: la parola agisce sui sensi del lettore e compone la scena di quel Teatro della crudeltà che il poeta ha sempre sognato di mettere in scena.

La raccolta 'Luce Sensibile' riferisce al quotidiano, ma dona un ambiente separato dalla vita frenetica di oggi: ogni pensiero conduce il lettore in questo spazio, il quale può farlo suo e personalizzarlo con altre chiavi di lettura. Un libro che ho sviluppato insieme a te, che tu stesso porterai avanti con nuove interpretazioni di vita e confronto con il prossimo. Attinte al patrimonio folklorico norvegese trascritto e raccolto per la prima volta da Asbjørnsen e Moe nell'Ottocento dopo essere stato tramandato di bocca in bocca per tempi immemorabili, queste fiabe intessono trame e atmosfere a noi nuove con personaggi e motivi che ci sono familiari, come la scarpetta di Cenerentola o gli stivali delle sette leghe, incantandoci con la loro ricchezza narrativa e avvicinandoci con il loro stile scarno alla freschezza della lingua del popolo.

La storia e le peripezie della famiglia De Lisi sono ispirate al ramo materno dell'autore e quelle degli Ascani alla famiglia paterna. Paperback binding; original blue printed paper wrappers with numerous small creases and tears and extremities and a few tiny chips at top of spine; protected in custom stiff archival mylar and further protected by a custom made gray and navy linen clam-shell box with printed spine label. Measues 20 cm in height. Illustrated with a historic photograph of Ashford as a girl and a facsimile of the first page of the original manuscript. Pages 133-221 contain the French translation of "The young visitors" which Ashford wrote at age 9; it was first published in 1919. This edition with an introduction by Cocteau and translated by Maurice Sachs who was Cocteau's secretary at the time. Sachs has inscribed and signed the book on the half-title page in the year of publication. Sachs was a black marketeer anti-semitic collaborateur went to Germany 1943 to work with Gestapo arrested and shot 1945.
