br. Il torrone, protagonista delle nostre sagre paesane, di molte nozze e momenti di gioia, spesso defraudato del suo valore perché non dietetico, ha varcato i millenni segnando i riti di passaggio della vita umana nel bacino del Mediterraneo. Due soli ingredienti, che costituivano inizialmente i simboli del trascendente, saranno ulteriormente incrementati con l'introduzione dello zucchero, dell'albume e degli aromi; il torrone soggiace a due fenomeni: l'aumento delle sue dimensioni e dei suoi ingredienti. Il saggio propone un viaggio a ritroso nel tempo, alle radici di una preparazione così diversa dalle formulazioni commerciali, e che rimane traversale a molte culture del bacino mediterraneo.

br. Chi di noi non ha mai sentito parlare di Dracula e dei vampiri? Questi nomi sono talmente popolari da diventare patrimonio culturale comune. Da trecento anni, infatti, almeno una volta al secolo il mondo è completamente preda di una moda vampirica: nella prima metà del Settecento fu il tempo della cosiddetta "peste vampirica", verso la fine dell'Ottocento e gli inizi del Novecento il romanzo Dracula di Bram Stoker ne risvegliò l'interesse. I libri già scritti al riguardo seguono pressappoco uno stesso copione con ben poche varianti. Nonostante se ne faccia inizialmente accenno, il senso di questo libro, come già ampiamente sondato da altri autori, non è quello di soffermarsi sul celebre romanzo di Stoker e neppure di addentrarsi nella filmografia dell'horror. Si cercherà invece di comprendere l'origine della storia tra le pieghe degli antichi miti, soprattutto quelli che provengono dalla Romania e dai Balcani perché è da lì che si è consolidata l'immagine del vampiro che tutti noi abbiamo in mente. Per entrare meglio nell'argomento abbiamo iniziato la ricerca con la lettura di vecchi testi romeni di etnografia e mitologia, per poi recarci direttamente in Transilvania tra i villaggi e le persone alla ricerca di indizi sulle tracce di Dracula. È dunque tutto un viaggio all'indietro per capire da dove sia nato l'aspetto e le caratteristiche del vampiro che ci è noto, sia di conoscerlo nel luogo da cui origina.

br. Si racconta che le streghe di tutta Europa, di notte, volando a cavalcioni di un caprone raggiungessero il mitico noce di Benevento. In questo luogo di perdizione frequentavano lussuriosi festini durante i quali quelle inquietanti figure danzavano, banchettavano e poi si concedevano infine a Satana. L'autore, Alessandro Norsa, antropologo, accompagnato da persone del luogo, ripercorre quel tratto della valle del fiume Sabato in cui si diceva sorgesse il famoso albero, cercando di comprendere i motivi per i quali nacquero e si diffusero quelle leggende. Il libro è costituito da quattro capitoli nei quali si evidenzia quella confusione che nel tempo si è generata tra i miti e i riti della "vecchia religione", mescolati con superstizioni nate con l'avvento del cristianesimo. Lo stile è accademico ma scorrevole. L'edizione ricalca lo stile dei libri antichi con capilettera miniati e chiudi pagina istoriati perché, nell'intento dell'autore, ricalcandone lo stile editoriale, questo lavoro vuole essere una risposta antropologica a quel Pietro Piperno che nel 1640 scrisse un "Tratto historico" sulla "superstiziosa noce di Benevento" che rese ancor più celebri, pieni di magia e mistero questi luoghi.
