This mimeographed country and folk music journal which has been called a veritable "research discography". Published quarterly starting in 1951 the 16 issues are Vol. 1 Nos.1-4 1951; Vol. 2 Nos. 1-3 1952; and Nos. 10 12-19 1957-1961. With a hand-written artist index on 4" x 6" index cards giving artist name issue number and page number no indication of author but from the collection of noted folklorist Frank Hoffman. Additionally Disc Collectors New Letter Nos. 1-5 Jan.-Sept. 1964 along with 2 pages of New Releases and a blank application for membership to Disc Collectors Record Club. Very Good or better overall slight musty smell assorted small corner creases. A remarkable and RARE treasure trove for the collector of early country and folk music. . First Printing. Stapled. Seconda edizione, in tutto identica alla prima tranne che per l'editore (Loescher, 1888), della celebre raccolta di canti popolari del Piemonte del Nigra (Castelnuovo Nigra, 1828-Rapallo, 1907), vero monumento degli studi sul folklore regionale di àmbito italiano e la poesia popolare comparata di area romanza. La raccolta, in cui i componimenti dialettali sono trascritti con assoluta fedeltà ortografica, è preceduta da un lungo discorso intorno alla poesia popolare italiana. In essa sono adunate 153 canzoni popolari, 16 orazioni e giaculatorie religiose, 200 strambotti e stornelli, numerose cantilene, giochi, rime infantili. Di estremo interesse i commenti apposti alle canzoni a carattere storico, riguardanti la vendetta di Rosmunda su Alboino, la marcia del principe Tommaso su Torino, il matrimonio contro la sua volontà di Carolina di Savoia con il Principe-Duca di Sassonia. "I Canti popolari del Piemonte... - i cui primi saggi cominciarono ad apparire nel 1854 - sono la prima grande raccolta italiana di canzoni epico-liriche e a tutt'oggi il lavoro più notevole sulla poesia popolare neolatina", scrive Vittorio Santoli in Enciclopedia Italiana, XXIV, 819. Seconda edizione, in tutto identica alla prima tranne che per l'editore (Loescher, 1888), della celebre raccolta di canti popolari del Piemonte del Nigra (Castelnuovo Nigra, 1828-Rapallo, 1907), vero monumento degli studi sul folklore regionale di àmbito italiano e la poesia popolare comparata di area romanza. La raccolta, in cui i componimenti dialettali sono trascritti con assoluta fedeltà ortografica, è preceduta da un lungo discorso intorno alla poesia popolare italiana. In essa sono adunate 153 canzoni popolari, 16 orazioni e giaculatorie religiose, 200 strambotti e stornelli, numerose cantilene, giochi, rime infantili. Di estremo interesse i commenti apposti alle canzoni a carattere storico, riguardanti la vendetta di Rosmunda su Alboino, la marcia del principe Tommaso su Torino, il matrimonio contro la sua volontà di Carolina di Savoia con il Principe-Duca di Sassonia. "I Canti popolari del Piemonte... - i cui primi saggi cominciarono ad apparire nel 1854 - sono la prima grande raccolta italiana di canzoni epico-liriche e a tutt'oggi il lavoro più notevole sulla poesia popolare neolatina", scrive Vittorio Santoli in Enciclopedia Italiana, XXIV, 819.
