‎BAR (Henry).‎

‎Massada LTD Ramat-Gan 1978. Hard Cover. Book Condition: Good. No Dust Jacket HechtKopf H illustrator. 4to 7½" x 10½". 168 pp. Translated from the Hebrew by Murray Roston and compiled by the author in the first English edition. Jewish folklore provides a rich and colorful source of stories. Its main difference from the folklore of other lands is that here each story aims at teaching a moral lesson and illuminates a teaching of the Torah. In this book Asher Barash has collected forty such tales from rabbinic sources retold in his own delightful fashion. Ornate sepia-wash drawings accompany each story. Top of spine has small tear. Text clean and intact with no markings. Binding and pages strong. There is dedication on the first front page. Overall good condition. Massada LTD hardcover‎

‎The Myth of Apollo and Daphne from Ovid to Quevedo: Love, Agon, and the Grotesque. Von Mary E. Barnard. Duke Monographs in Medieval and Renaissance Studies; Number 8.‎

‎Duke University Press; Durham, 1987. 211 Seiten; Illustrationen; 24 cm. Originalleinen mit illustr. Schutzumschlag.‎

‎Gutes Exemplar; Umschlag etwas "begriffen" (berieben u. stw. gering fleckig); innen sehr gut. - Englisch. - The transformations of the myth of Apollo and Daphne in literary treatments from Ovid through the Spanish Golden Age are studied here in theme and variation, revealing how the protean figures of the myth meant different things to different ages, each age fashioning the lovers in its own image. The Myth of Apollo and Daphne focuses on the themes of love, agon, and the grotesque, and their transformations as the writers and myth-tellers, through a kind of artificial mythopoeia, invent variants for the tale, altering the ancient model to create their new, distinctive visions. Barnard begins with the both serious and playful rendition of Apollo and Daphne by the bantering Ovid, then moves through reworkings of Ovid's tale in the allegoresis of medieval commentators, in the tortured and elusive poetic universe of Petrarch's Canzoniere, and in Garcilaso de la Vega's courtly visions, and ends with Francisco de Quevedo, whose serious version in quintillas contrasts sharply with his burlesque treatment in two sonnets ? a stage for his linguistic extravagances and savage wit. ... ‎Barringer, Judith M.‎

‎ART, MYTH, AND RITUAL IN CLASSICAL GREECE‎

‎Minor indents to upper edges of wraps. Else minor shelfwear. ; What do Greek myths mean and how was meaning created for the ancient viewer? In Art, Myth and Ritual in Classical Greece, Judith Barringer considers the use of myth on monuments at several key sites – Olympia, Athens, Delphi, Bassai, and Trysa – showing that myth was neither randomly selected nor purely decorative. The mythic scenes on these monuments had meaning, the interpretation of which depends on context. Barringer explains how the same myth can possess different meanings and how, in a monumental context, the mythological image relates to the site and often to other monuments surrounding it, which redouble, resonate, or create variation on a theme. The architectural sculpture examined here is discussed in a series of five case studies, which are chronologically arranged and offer a range of physical settings, historical and social circumstances, and interpretive problems. Providing new interpretations of familiar monuments, this volume also offers a comprehensive way of seeing and understanding Greek art and culture as an integrated whole. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 284 pages‎

‎Bartolozzi‎

‎Troilus and Cressida. Cres-Go hang yourself, you naughty mocking uncle…‎

‎BARTOLOZZI, FRANCESCO – CIPRIANI, GIOVANNI BATTISTA.‎

‎Ninfa con cetra e puttino alato.‎

‎Londra, 1830 circa. Incisione in rame all'acquaforte, b/n, cm 12 x 16. (Fonte Treccani) (Bibl.: T. W.
