Coins et coiffes usés, 1 charnière fendue, manque à la pièce de titre, travail de vers en bordure de quelques feuillets. Peu courant.‎

‎Barbier III, col 123 par Laourcé, avocat. Gazin, p274. Chadenat 5250. Sommervogel XI, 1775-11. L'affaire scandaleuse relatée dans cet ouvrage peu courant précipita la dissolution de l'ordre des Jésuites en France. Le Procureur Général des Jésuites aux Isles du Vent (Martinique), Antoine de La Valette (Saint-Affrique 1707-après 1762), grâce à des emprunts énormes auprès de négociants de Marseille (Lioncy et Gouffre) et de Lyon, acquit le monopole du commerce des isles au détriment des autres colons. Ses bateaux furent saisis par les Anglais et, rappelé en France, il fut condamné en 1762 pour banqueroute frauduleuse. L'ordre des Jésuites, déclaré solidaire par le Parlement de Paris, refusa de rembourser les négociants.‎

The Appin Murder occurred on 14 May 1752 near Appin in the west of Scotland, and it resulted in what is often held to be a notorious miscarriage of justice. It occurred in the tumultuous aftermath of the Jacobite Rising of 1745. The murder inspired events in Robert Louis Stevenson's novel Kidnapped.‎

‎En 1941, Jacques Benoist-Méchin fit partie du gouvernement Darlan, comme responsable des relations avec l’Allemagne. Ami de Drieu La Rochelle et du ministre de la Propagande Paul Marion, il signa le manifeste ultra-collaborationniste que l’amiral Platon lança le 9 juillet 1944 appelant au limogeage de Laval et à la constitution d’un gouvernement entièrement acquis à l’effort de guerre allemand. En mai 1947, il fut condamné à mort par la Haute Cour, mais gracié par Vincent Auriol. Auteur d’une “Histoire de l’armée allemande” (1936), son talent d’historien fut reconnu par des personnalités aussi diverses que Mitterrand ou de Gaulle. Benoist-Méchin fut l’auteur d’un des premiers récits de captivité paru en France, en avril 1941 : “La moisson de Quarante. Journal d’un prisonnier de guerre”, qui fut traduit la l’année suivante en allemand et publié à Hambourg par Hanseatische Verlagsanstalt. Benoist-Méchin n’eut à subir qu’une courte captivité, au frontstalag 202, à Voves en Eure-et-Loir... du 25 juin au 15 août 1940. Les conditions de sa libération restent obscures. (Laurent Quinton)‎
