Robert College was founded in Bebek by Christopher Robert, a wealthy American philanthropist, and Cyrus Hamlin, a missionary devoted to education in 1863. The Gülmez Frères were three brothers, of Armenian origin, who established a photography studio in Istanbul, Turkey in 1870. A short time later, they took photos for the Ottoman court and Sultan Abdulhamid II.

First edition of this rare monumental two-volume set in which an inventory is kept of almost all architectural buildings such as mosques, masjids, fountains, schools, and lodges in Ottoman Istanbul and its surroundings, built since Sultan Mehmet II up to 1768, in a traveler style, by Ayvansarayî, who was hafiz and janissary sekban who lived in the 18th century. "This excellent book has an extremely important place in the literature not only in terms of architectural works and topography but also as a historical source of Constantinople". (Hammer). Long recognized by Turkish scholars as a unique source of Istanbul's architecture and urban form, the text, which was started in 1182 (1768-69) and completed in 1195/1780 and revised and enlarged between 1248/1832-33 and 1253/1838 by Ali Sati, son of Mahmud Efendi, one of the judges of Medina, contains separate descriptions of each of Istanbul's more than 800 mosques, plus accounts of its madrasahs, tombs, tekkes and other monuments. The annotations place each of these buildings within the city's urban plan and provide biographical information about the patrons, architects, and other personalities mentioned in the text. Ayvansarayi's original text, which survives in a number of manuscript copies, was enlarged in the 1830s by Ali Sati Efendi, whose reworking was published in print in 1865 and has thus become the best-known version of the Hadika. The author, who first visited the mosques and masjids inside the city walls in a topographic order, then examined the ones outside the city walls, then discussed Eyüp, Galata, both sides of the Bosphorus, Üsküdar (Scutari), Kadiköy (Khalkedon) mosques and masjids. After giving the name of the building in each article, if a mosque was transformed from the church, he noted this issue and recorded the name of the person who had it built. If known, he also indicates where this person's grave is located. Detailed info about the restoration of the architectural building has been restored. And he gives detailed information on additional facilities such as a public fountain, sebil, school, madrasah, and in some cases the people who lie in its burial ground, with brief information about the foundation of this charitable building. His highly influential research centered on social and economic approaches to the empire. His academic career started at Ankara University, where he completed his PhD and worked between 1940 and 1972. Between 1972 and 1986 he taught Ottoman history at the University of Chicago. From 1994 on he taught at Bilkent University, where he founded the history department. He was a founding member of Eurasian Academy.

Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original color map of Erzurum city center and it environment. Folded. 69x42,5 cm. In Ottoman script. One sheet. Shows center of Erzurum city and topography environment. No scale info. Hegira: 1336 = Gregorian: 1920. Not description on map-maker. This is one the serie of the Bonn projection maps which are the first map series in modern techniques in Turkey and the Ottoman Empire. In order to produce these maps covering Turkish territory, Reconnaissance Branch was incorporated into The Mapping Commission. The maps were produced in the datum based on the latitude and longitude of Ayasofya Mosque in equal area Bonn Projection. The field works for the 123 sheets covering the country were conducted by 76 staff. The production was completed in 18 years starting from east west. Field works continued without stopping except in years 1914 and 1920. This map series called also reconnaissance maps contributed a lot to producing 1:25.000 scale maps. Extremely rare.

Ottoman sanjaks in Albania and Greece. A rare Ottoman map of Balkans with Turkish place names for the period of pre-Balkan Wars, (1912-1913). Very important for onomastics and historical geography. Written 'Paris -French meridian- was accepted as the 0 meridian'. The Paris meridian is a meridian line running through the Paris Observatory in Paris, France-now longitude 2°20'14.03" east. It was a long-standing rival to the Greenwich meridian as the prime meridian of the world. Personal stamp of Muhiddin Pasha on cloth, under the printed descriptive texts. It's from the collection of him. Hasan Muhiddin Pasha [Çanga], (1866-1944), who was a lieutenant in Hedjaz Army of the Ottoman Empire in 1887. After he suppressed the rebellion in Yemen, 1891, his rank was promoted to the 'major'. After the Imam Yahya rebellion in Yemen, 1904, he prepared a report for the Ottoman government. He also took part in Ethiopia, Sudan, Yemen, Arabian Peninsula for various military duties. After promotion to division command, he was provincial president of CHP (Republican People's Party). He was a very important politic and diplomatic figure for the last period of Ottoman and early Republican Turkey. Not in Tooley. Extremely rare.
