FIRST EDITION 1911 published for the coronation of George V in that year miniature book approximately 84 x 65 mm 3¼ x 2¾ inches cover size including yapp edges bound in the original publisher's green paper wraps blue and brown floral decoration and title to upper cover and spine decorative frontispiece with portrait of George V and Queen Mary similar border to title page no pagination: 6 prelim pages with music and words of God Save the King on 2 pages followed by 122 pages in pairs: on the lefthand page a vignette with a quotation below a decorative motif to the top of the facing page with a large blank space for autographs at the end are 3 pages each with a vignette but no space to write. Book leaning slightly no inscriptions several people have signed the first blank 1 slightly messy entry on a lefthand page another quite tidy otherwise clean and bright. A very good plus copy. The illustrations are mostly of persons both official and unofficial at the coronation plus some heraldic animals and some typical Charles Robinson babies. The artist had already illustrated an autograph book issued by the publishers for the coronation of Edward VII in 1902 The Coronation Autograph Book. A very good copy unusual in the printed boards. No magnifying glass issued with this copy which has no pocket for it. Frontispiece title illustration 5 black and white plates and 14 text illustrations all by Richard Doyle. Not really a doll story: a wooden doll maker is punished for his laziness and his envy of his neighbour a silversmith by a black fairy called Malice and her alter ego an enchanted black doll which grows in size as the doll maker becomes more discontented. Yapp edges neatly trimmed off spine a touch darkened contents very clean a couple of inner joints cracked binding tight and firm. A very good copy. This popular story was first published with these illustrations as an 8vo in 1849 Osborne I366 reprinted by Alexander Moring in 1903 with 13 plates but only 6 text illustrations. Very Good. 2 parts in one volume 24mo 93 x 58mm. 44 24pp. 10 full-page engraved allegorical illustrations accompanying separately titled tales printed between engraved borders. Contemporary embossed and painted scenes front cover with scene personifying friendship a classicized figure welcoming a traveler and his dog to the door of his home with a moralizing quotation in French �Un bon ami vaut tout� �A good friend is all�. Rear cover depicting the crowning of virtues one putti lowering wreath to pair of classicized figures surrounded by moralizing quotation in French �Cest a la vertu vous la merites non cest vous �It is the virtue you merit not you� decorative period paper on pastedowns slight wear and rubbing text block loose in binding; contents otherwise clean. <br/><br/>The tales in rhyming verse are on familiar themes of friendship romance and the uncertainty of love. There are also poems for songs around the table and the meaning of flowers. The compact book overall ties in nicely some well-appreciated characters from Anthony Abbot the Great to Cinderella. Chapbooks were inexpensive and usually anonymous printings of these popular themes. Text in German. The sweet pictures show a mother talking to her baby then as a toddler school girl her birthday at Christmas etc. the last showing the young girl at her Confirmation. In the original publisher's thin cream card wraps decorated with a green and pink border and 2 young women holding a scroll with the title on upper cover in the middle of the lower cover is printed in small letters: "Deposé". Slight discoloration to covers; booklet in very good clean condition overall. An incredibly violent children's story which ends with the protagonist being attacked by a large spider.
