Inscribed January 1890 called The Finger Prayer Book because of its shape approximately 90 mm tall x 28 mm wide cover size 3½ x 1 inches pages: 5 1 blank 77-599 as issued bound in black leather with rounded corners single rule blind border to covers "Common Prayer" and the cross gilt on upper cover gilt title repeated on spine all edges red and gilded decorative gilt inner dentelles turn ins dark brown endpapers. Pencil inscription on blank following front endpaper head and tail of spine and corners very slightly rubbed inner dentelles inside front cover slightly chipped gilt on lower edges and at lower corner damaged by damp so that red showing only see image tip of lower page corners also affected by damp and tips creased throughout most of the volume. A good plus clean copy. Bondy Miniature Books page 131; Welsh Bibliography of Miniature Books page 58 does not list this edition without Calendar etc but there is a copy at Lambeth Palace listed on Copac; Griffiths Bibliography of Common Prayer page 414 No.4 no mention of Henry Frowde. Head and tail of spine very slightly worn binding very slightly rubbed small closed tear to tuck-in flap almost invisibly mended fold to front endpapers cracked but binding sound faint inscription on front endpaper dated 1829 contents very nice. A very good plus copy most likely first edition. Bondy mentions having seen a copy with the extra gold printed leaves at the rear. MINIATURE FACSIMILE 1966 OF THE THIRD EDITION OF 1766 PUBLISHED BY JOHN NEWBERY 45 x 36 mm 1¾ x 1¼ inches frontispiece misplaced at page 49 presumably because it had been misplaced there at some time in the copy used by the publisher several woodcuts in the text pages: 156 including prelims and appendix plus 4 pages of publisher's adverts bound in publisher's full burgundy morocco with gilt coat of arms to both covers with underneath the letters "L.G.C." indicating the publisher and binder who is not named anywhere in the volume spine richly gilt gilt title and gilt date "1766" all edges pale yellow.
