‎Summary This volume collects essays from an international group of scholars who treat various aspects of the Fourth Lateran Council's placement within the development of the ius commune. Topics include the canon law about armsbearing clergy, episcopal elections, heresy, degrees of affinity within marriage, the oversight of relic veneration; two essays highlight the council's reaction to the Fourth Crusade's sack of Constantinople in trying to incorporate the eastern church into the ecclesiastical structure and liturgical norms of the Roman Church; several essays concentrate on the usage of Roman or civil law in some of Lateran IV's constitutions and emphasize issues of private and procedural law. Collectively, and headed by an essay by Anne J. ‎Summary In memoriam Gerhard Croll (1927-2019) Gaspar van Weerbeke was one of the most successful Franco-Flemish musicians of the second half of the fifteenth century, holding prestigious positions in the Sforza court in Milan, the Burgundian court chapel, and the papal chapel in Rome. His compositions were widely transmitted in manuscript and print sources throughout Europe, and he was one of the best represented composers in the early Italian music prints of Ottaviano Petrucci. Despite the high esteem of his contemporaries, Gaspar has up to now played only a peripheral role in Renaissance music historiography. This book is the first collection of research articles dedicated exclusively to the life and works of Gaspar. While the basic facts of Gaspar's life have long been known, the book fleshes out the details, presenting a more differentiated and complex picture of his biography. Analysis of a wide range of Gaspar's compositional output leads to new interpretations of his approach to different genres: masses, motets, and motet cycles. Without neglecting nor negating this important historical research on the Gospel According to Thomas, this new translation accompanied by a commentary focuses on another aspect that has been given less attention in scholarship, namely that of a synchronic reading and interpretation of the text. ‎The Music Boy exhibition at the New Art Gallery Walsall is the artist's first in the United Kingdom. A 168-page hardback, illustrated catalogue featuring extensive essays by Andrew Graham-Dixon and Martin Herbert, as well as a foreword by Charlotte Mullins was published on the occasion. The exhibition is titled after a quadriptych of paintings depicting the artist's grandmother and his uncle playing an accordion.Jan Vanriet's work mainly concerns the memory of history and the construction of pictorial surface. As Martin Herbert writes: "Vanriet builds up his paintings in layers, and the strata of underpainting have, in his case, a polyvalent quality. In some cases they form glazes that gift the paintings with an internal glow; in others, the half-visible ghosts of earlier paintings both reaffirm the idea that something is being held back, and situate Vanriet's paintings as a carefully wrought, crafted statement that has gone through stages in order to reach a conclusive point, like a phrase honed through multiple careful edits." Jan Vanriet's mother, father and uncle participated in the Resistance movement and were deported by the Nazis. His parents met in the Mauthausen concentration camp and their stories and memories of the Second World War and its aftermath continue to permeate his paintings. Themes of love, loss, identity, destiny and disappearance pervade his work. And yet Vanriet says: "The starting point may be my family, but I see it as a universal story. I don't want the themes to be too narrow, too close to me, because they should go wider than that. If not, it is only anecdote and I have not painted well enough."‎
