‎A road story: 180 years of photography.= Bir yol öyküsü: Fotografin ardinda 180 yil. [Exhibition catalogue].‎

‎New English Paperback. 4to. (29 x 24 cm). In English and Turkish. 281, [2] p., color and b/w photos and ills. A road story: 180 years of photography.= Bir yol öyküsü: Fotografin ardinda 180 yil. [Exhibition catalogue]. At the 180th anniversary of invention of photography and the first photography trip that took place in 1839, A Road Story: 180 Years of Photography exhibition brings together interpretations and perspectives of photographers who explore the same route with today's techniques. French painter Émile Jean Horace Vernet, painter Charles Marie Bouton who is among the inventors of Diorama technique, and daguerreotypist Frédéric Auguste Antoine Goupil-Fesquet depart from the Port of Marseille in October 1839 to take photographs and return to Marseille six months later, in April 1840 passing from Livorno, Malta, Syros, Paros, Naxos, Santorini, Alexandria, Cairo, Luxor, Suez, Mount Sinai, Gaza, Bethlehem, Jerusalem, Nablus, Sayda, Deir Al Qamar, Damascus, Tripoli, Baalbek, Beirut, Larnaca, Rhodes, Kos, Izmir, Dardanelles, Istanbul and Rome. Frédéric Auguste Antoine Goupil-Fesquet conveyed his impressions about this journey in his book, Voyage d'Horace Vernet en Orient that would be published in 1843. At the 180th anniversary of this first known group photography trip, the exhibition curated by Engin Özendes features the artists Coskun Aral, Laleper Aytek, Ali Borovali, Murat Germen, Sinan Koçaslan, Yusuf Sevinçli, Alp Sime, Lale Tara, Serkan Taycan and Cem Turgay. The photographs they took during their trips to the stops of the earlier journey reflect a contemporary take on these cities with rich histories.‎

Presenze Italiane a Istanbul = Istanbul'daki Italyan izi. [With a CD].

‎Alakent Church: A Byzantine monument at Myra 12th-13th centuries.‎

‎New New English Original bdg. Dust wrapper. 4to. (28 x 20 cm). Edition in English. 269 p., ills. Alakent church: A Byzantine monument at Myra 12th-13th centuries. The presence of this small Byzantine church in the Alakent neighborhood of Demre has been known to archaeologists and art historians for quite some time. Revealing the structure from under the five meter deep alluvial fill in which it was buried was only possible as a result of the excavation work carried out in 2010 as part of the Myra-Andriake Excavations. The alluvial fill kept most of the aspects of the building such as mural paintings, roof tiles, facade decorations and spolia intact. The book was edited by the GABAM's director and member of Koç University Archaeology and Art History Department, Engin Akyürek. "The chapters of book are 'The Story of the Excavation' by Nevzat Çevik, the director of the Myra-Andriake Excavations, 'Myra: The Metropolis of Lycia', 'Alakent Church: Location And Architecture' and 'Conclusion' by Engin Akyürek, 'Architectural Sculpture' by Ayça Tiryaki, 'Wall Paintings' by Nilay Çoragan, 'Ceramic Finds' and 'Burials' by Özgü Çömezoglu Uzbek, 'Inscriptions' by Hüseyin Sami Öztürk and Christof Schuler, 'Conservation Treatments' by Sebahattin Küçük.".‎

‎New English Paperback. Pbo. Oblong large 8vo. (20 x 22 cm). In English and Turkish. 380 p., color and b/w ills. From the imperial capital to the Republican modern city: Henri Prost's planning of Istanbul, 1936-1951.= Imparatorluk baskentinden Cumhuriyet'in modern kentine: Henri Prost'un Istanbul planlamasi, 1936-1951. One of the leading urban planners of his time, Henri Prost was invited to Istanbul in 1936 to draw up the city's master plan. Prost's plans span from 1936 to 1951. The exhibition was curated by Pierre Pinon, known for his work on Istanbul's urban fabric and architecture, and Cânâ Bilsel, whose work focuses on the history of urban planning, urban design and urban architecture. Prost was an extremely important figure in the history of urban planning of the 20th century, working on Istanbul's planning, he attempted to preserve the unique topography, the fabric and the historical monuments of the city, while at the same time he tried to find consistent solutions to a variety of problems like constructing a modern infrastructure, providing sanitary conditions, easing transportation, refurbishing recreational areas and uncovering historically - culturally important buildings. It is impossible to deny that in the fifty years that have passed, Prost remains the leading architect-urban planner in shaping the Istanbul of the 20th century and has left his mark on today's Istanbul, despite the fact that various approaches in the modern planning of a historical metropolis like Istanbul have come to the fore.‎

‎Antioch mosaics. A corpus.‎

‎New English Original bdg. HC. Large 4to. (32 x 28 cm). In English. 320 p., color ills. "The book includes the most important Antioch mosaic pavements displayed in the Hatay Archaeological Museum in Antakya, Turkey, seventeen different institutions in the USA and the Louvre. The mosaics were brought to light in and around Antioch on the Orontes (Antakya), Seleucia Pieria (Çevlik) and Daphne (Defne) in 1932-37. As a group, the Antioch mosaics demonstrate a remarkable continuity with the Hellenistic artistic tradition as seen in the preservation of classical subjects and decorative devices, such as the illusionistic treatment of the inhabited vine scrolls or ribbon borders. The common use of multiple borders to frame figural panels at Antioch is also reminiscent of the framing of Hellenistic emble-mata, or portable panels prepared in workshops and then inserted at the sites. The three-dimensional treatment of interiors and landscapes, the naturalistic representation of the human anatomy, and the variety of colors employed for the Antiochene compositions, indicate a dependence on painting styles. Such skill in the production of stone 'paintings' effectively denies the solidity of the floor and tricks the eye of the viewer, not to mention their physical relationship to the room itself. Finds from nearby sites (Apamea, Zeugma, Shahba-Philippopolis, and Palmyra) are similarly 'traditional' and point to the existence of a 'school' of eastern art beyond that of the Antiochene workshops. Such illusionism reaches the height of fashion during the Severan period in Antioch.".‎

‎Mosaics in Istanbul.‎

‎New New English Original bdg. Dust wrapper. 4to. (32 x 24,5 cm). In English. 175 p., color ills. "The book brings together the extant mosaics of the Great Palace (Büyük Saray Mosaic Museum), Hagia Sophia (Ayasofya Museum), the Virgin Pammakaristos (Fethiye Museum), St. Saviour in Chora (Kariye Museum) and Istanbul Archaeological Museums. Except for the few panels brought from elsewhere and now kept in the Istanbul Archaeological Museums, all of the mosaics in this book were made in Istanbul, known then as Constantinople. Chronologically, the earliest of these mosaics is from the late Roman period and the latest from the early fourteenth century. Even if they are far from giving the development of the art of mosaic in the capital these pavements reflect the importance that was afforded to this art. In this volume they are grouped under the name of the monument to which they belong. Constantinople suffered so many natural disasters and had to be rebuilt so many times that the mosaics which decorated the buildings of the late Roman/early Byzantine period, lie under modern buildings in the debris of fires and earthquakes. Unless some of these are encountered accidentally during construction work and salvaged, there is almost no hope of bringing them to light.".‎

‎Mosaics of Antioch.‎

‎New English Original bdg. HC. Oblong large 8vo. (23 x 23 cm). In English. 72 p., 50 color plates. "The book includes the finest of the Antioch mosaic pavements displayed in the Hatay Archaeological Museum in Antakya, Turkey. The pavements were brought to light in and around Antioch on the Orontes (Antakya), Seleucia Pieria (Çevlik) and Daphne (Defne) in 1932-37. The excavations have shown that in the whole area there was not a single better-class house without mosaic pavements decorating its entrance, halls, dining rooms, corridors and sometimes the bottoms of its pools. In addition to pavements which came from structures built in different periods, mosaics which came from the different levels of the same buildings have enabled scholars to construct a gradual and unbroken development of classical Roman mosaics covering its iconographic and stylistic changes from the first century of the Common Era to the beginning of the sixth.".‎

‎Mesk-i Istanbul: Yenikapi Mevlevihanesi restorasyonu, (2005-2010).‎

‎New New English Original bdg. Dust wrapper. In special slip-case. Folio. (32 x 24 cm). In Turkish. 247 p., color and b/w ills. Mesk-i Istanbul. Yenikapi Mevlevihanesi restorasyonu, (2005-2010). A modest zawiyah was established in Istanbul at the end of the 18th century. This lodge, which developed over time and was referred to as "Mevlevîhâne der Bâb-i Cedîd" in certain Ottoman sources, ranked second following the Galata Mevlevi Lodge by its establishment date. This lodge, which however could not resist the impacts of time and only foundations and dilapidated buildings were left behind from its brilliant structure by the time we reached the 21st century, was the very same Yenikapi Mevlevi Lodge. With the repair and protection project conducted by Güryapi Restoration during 2005-2010, the Yenikapi Mevlevi Lodge did not only return to its past magisterial days, but also started to serve as an international education center within the organization of Fatih Sultan Mehmed Foundation University. The book titled "Yenikapi Mevlevîhanesi Restorasyonu 2005-2010", that has been published with over 250 photographs, archive documents and survey drawings and was prepared under the editorship of Prof. Dr. M. Baha Tanman, sheds light on the most comprehensive repair and protection process in the history of the Mevlevi Lodge and its history when it served as a science, wisdom and guidance center that has led the rearing of artists, composers and performers once upon a time.‎

‎Artamonoff [Nicolas V.]: Picturing Byzantine Istanbul, 1930-1947.‎

‎New English Paperback. Pbo. 4to. (28 x 23 cm). Edition in English. 311 p. B/w ills. Nicholas V. Artamonoff left behind a photographic puzzle of over one thousand images. He was a student and engineer, who, while studying and living at Robert College in Istanbul, gained an appreciation for the city's history and culture. With his Rollei camera, he captured Byzantine remains, ntering nooks and crannies of fortifications and cisterns. He strolled through the city in the footsteps of architectural historians and archaeologists who explored and uncovered Byzantine Istanbul. his interests were broad: they ranged from imposing churches to the smallest details of architectural sculpture, from bustling marketplaces to the diligent work of lone craftsmen. The abundance of subjects es the Nicholas V. Artamonoff Collection rich and engaging, providing a glimpse into the diverse urban environment in which he lived, and into the versatile photographer he was.‎
