The Publisher shows a publication date of 1853 but the Author's Remarks are dated as 1854 Spine is partly missing and where present has some splits over joints bumped corners library plate for Ampleforth Abbey on inside of front cover some plates are loose Plate 11 is detached separation between Plates 17 and 18 and pages and plates are darkened and have a water stain at the lower corner adjacent to the gutter. Contains a 2 page summary by John Gough Nichols dated 1842 giving details about the tiles pictured throughout the book. Tiles 25-48 are orange engravings on yellow paper and the remaining pages are on white paper and seem to be examples of different alphabetical fonts. Book in undated but I suspect it has been rebound sometime in the past. Please contact for images. A lovely and very interestuing record of tiles from several diferent churches and cathedrals. The two plans referred to are missing from the pocket at the rear. Now protected in a fully removable transparent sleeve. 106pp. A unique publication being a detailed prospectus for about 4624 acres of the Alderley Park Estates comprising Alderley Park with nearly 400 acres gardens and parklands 77 farms 166 houses and cottages'The Old Hall' 'Bollington Grange' 'Sossmoss Hall' 'Heawood Hall' 'Chorley Hall' many valuable building sites and including the famous Alderley Edge Wizard and Wizard Woods with a total current 1938 annual income of ú9699 per annum. 'Newman Street. 33. London'. 17 June 1811. 1p. 4to. Bifolium. Very good on lightly-aged paper. Addressed on reverse of second leaf to 'James Elmes Esqre.' At the head of the letter Elmes has written: 'From J. Raphael Smith the celebrated mezzotinto Engraver J Elmes' and down the bottom right-hand corner: 'From J. Raphael Smith Painter in Crayons & Mezzotinto Engraver to Mr Elmes with 2 proof prints J. E'. At the foot of the page Elmes has identified 'Mr. Tooke' in the letter as 'Horne Tooke J.E.' Smith writes: 'Sir I have sent you an impression of Sr. Francis Burdett for your portfolio & one in an unfinished state of Mr. Tooke which the bearer will bring back or call again for & a compleat impression shall be sent you in a ten day as soon as they can be printed the plate is finished but none taken off yet the unfinished one will do for a certain purpose & a finished one much the better for your portfolio'.
