‎Net als de andere Brugse kunstenaars uit de neoclassicistische periode die in Parijs en elders met succes een loopbaan hebben uitgebouwd, was Fran ois Kinsoen of 'Kinson', zoals hij in Frankrijk signeerde, een discrete figuur die lange tijd tussen de plooien van de Belgische en Franse kunstgeschiedenis verborgen is gebleven. Fran ois Kinsoen bouwde een schitterende carri re uit als gepolijst hof- en societyportrettist van onder andere de Franse keizerlijke familie en van de koninklijke Bourbondynastie, van oude en nieuwe aristocraten, burgers en nijvere pre-kapitalisten, legerofficieren en politici en zelfs van kunstenaars en zangeressen. Toen de portretschilderkunst en zeker de sublimerende en verfijnde manier van werken van Kinsoen midden 19de eeuw door critici als voorbijgestreefd en onnatuurlijk werd gezien, werden de indrukwekkende portretten van Kinsoen voorwerp van algemene minachting. Deze eens zo gevierde kunstenaar werd zo een onbeduidende voetnoot in de Europese kunstgeschiedenis. Schoorvoetend kondigt zich vandaag, een vernieuwde belangstelling aan voor zijn werk. Sinds enkele decennia duiken op tentoonstellingen, op de internationale kunstmarkt en in veilinghuizen geregeld portretten van zijn hand op. Tres vite, des essais en ceramique sont realises, transformant la surface plane en bas-reliefs, offrant a L'Hourloupe sa premiere tentative d'investir la troisieme dimension.
