Two volumes only of the Kojitsu sōsho these are the Reifuku Ceremonial or formal clothing and the Kariginu literally "hunting clothes" sometimes used to mean Noh costumes; informal clothing at the time of the Heian Court volumes with illustrations of the textile colors and patterns used. "The Kojitsu sōsho is a series book with information of textile design and costume. It includes seven volumes: Vol. 1 Jokan female official Vol. 2 Kariginu hunting cloth Vol. 3 Nishiki orimono brocaded textile Vol. 4 Reifuku Ceremony cloth Vol. 5-6 Miyuki. The series was published during 1800 - 1825. According to the epilogue written by the Honma Hyakuri Matsuoka Tokikata liked to collect ancient textiles. They published these books as a reference source to illustrate the designs mentioned in classic books. This volume of Kariginu provides luxury illustrations for different design patterns. Kariginu is a kind of cloth that originally wore in the hunting occasion. The cut of body and sleeve part are not sewed so that it is convenient for hunting. Later it also became a costume for officials and ceremonies. The design and color became richer with the development" Asia Arts Phoenix website. The work which was privately printed was written by Honma Hyakuri likely a penname for a samurai-class scholar 1784-1854 who studied ancient court practices under the Edo scholar Matsuoka Tokikata. The work is beautifully printed capturing the richness and subtlety of the textiles. The work was republished at the turn of the twentieth century. The current volumes have the dates of the first edition but since the complete set is not present it is not entirely clear which edition they come from although likely the circa 1900 edition. . hardcover
