Lengthy inscription by Dard Hunter at front flyleaf dated April 10 1932. Hunter's first publication using his own paper and type the volume begins with an original etching by William Auerbach Levy signed by him. Then follows a Foreword and a discourse on the history and the art of etching both marked by a four-line initial in red. A significant text in content provenance and history bound in quarter vellum with gray-blue paper over boards and paper label to upper cover. Covers somewhat soiled else near fine in trifold chemise and slipcase. 1915 Member list for the Chicago Society of Etchers among which was Levy laid in. One of twenty-five deluxe copies this being the publisher's proof copy with a suite of extra material: seven original pencil drawings each titled and signed two mounted and one loose proof of the title and colophon illustrations twelve titled and signed state proofs artist's proof of the Poe/Raven portrait and a signed prospectus. The haunted tone of Poe's poetry is echoed in the five full-page etchings of The Raven by Alan James Robinson who has titled and signed each one in pencil. This is Robinson's first interpretation of The Raven and it has remained one of his finest and most sought after publications. Bound by David Borbeau at the Thistle Bindery with full marbled paper echoing raven's wings along the spine. Suite housed in chemise and stored together with the book in a morocco-backed clamshell box. Some sunning to box spine and bump to lower corner of lid else a fine collection of the artist's process. Quarto. 42pp. From an edition of 75 this is an artist's copy signed by Alan James Robinson and the dedicatee Dick Callaway in a special binding with an extra suite of proof illustrations and unique additions to the book such as hand-coloring to all the engravings and original watercolors on the dedication page half-title and leaf after the colophon. Illustrated with five erotic etchings colored ". la poupée" and seven wood engravings. The original drawing is based on the frontispiece etching. Peter Geraty's special one-off binding is full navy morocco with gilt rules and a gilt swan image replicated as the watercolor on the half-title the plate for which is inset in the box.
