‎Titre en bas au centre : « Qué drôles de têtes !! » ; légende plus bas au centre : « Se vend chez l’éditeur à Ste Pélagie. / (Section Politique.) » ; indications : en ht au centre : « La Caricature (Journal) / (N°68) », en ht à dte : « Pl. 138. »- Dans la lettre : « Lith. de Delaporte. » [imprimeur], « On s’abonne chez Aubert, galerie véro dodat. » ; attribution : Charles-Joseph Traviès, dessinateur ? iconographie:Au premier plan, figuration de deux hommes, vus de trois quarts à dte. Ils sont représentés en train de marcher, se dirigeant vers la dte de la composition. Le premier, un homme ventripotent, en pantalon et redingote, tenant dans sa main gche un chapeau haut de forme orné de la cocarde tricolore. Sa tête n’est pas humaine mais est remplacée par une poire. Il s’agit du roi Louis-Philippe. Le second homme prend appui sur le bras du premier. Il s’agit de son fils aîné, le duc d’Orléans, en habit militaire. Sa tête, à lui non plus, n’est pas humaine, mais est remplacée par une courge ou un concombre. A l’arrière-plan, une foule de personnes regardant passer ces deux hommes étranges. On distingue un cavalier à dte. A gche, une femme et un enfant se détachent de la masse informe de la foule. L’enfant pointe du doigt les deux créatures hybrides. La poire est l’attribut caricatural fréquemment utilisé par La Caricature pour désigner le roi des Français. Un cucurbitacée se trouve également souvent associé au duc d’Orléans. Le remplacement de la tête, siège de la pensée, par un végétal, sert à mettre en lumière la bêtise des deux personnages. Sans doute l’idée de cette pl. vient-elle de Charles Philipon, au vu de la légende, celle-ci précisant le lieu de vente de la pl., c'est-à-dire la prison de Sainte-Pélagie, dans laquelle est alors enfermé le directeur de La Caricature depuis le 12 janvier 1832, condamné pour outrages à la personne du roi (à cause de la publication de la pl. 70 du numéro 35 ; 30 juin 1831). ‎Deux représentations caricaturales du roi Louis-Philippe, assis sur un fauteuil. La planche dénonce l’entrain avec lesquels Louis-Philippe procède à la répression des opposants au régime. Elle pointe également du doigt le manque de ressort du roi dans le traitement des affaires étrangères.‎

Overall paper size 32.6 × 40.9 cm. Horizontal and vertical fold.Caricature of the July Monarchy’s repressive measures against workers’ uprisings in Lyon and Paris, the so-called ‘April insurgents’. Louis-Philippe is compared to the late mediaeval king Louis XI, notorious for his cunning and cruelty. The print represents a pseudo- mediaeval execution scene with Liberty in a white dress and red cap standing in front of the gallows flanked by jailors. Louis-Philippe wearing a helmet with chain-mail is shown from behind standing on top of the dungeons of Ste Pelagie giving final instructions. To the left, lecherous monks and gloating courtiers are looking on; to the right a moustachioed Talleyrand dressed as a cardinal is in attendance with other ministers in ancient dress or armour. His surgical shoe is wrongly shown on his left foot. Armed mounted guards and a large fortress in the background complete the scene.‎

‎Dong Ho Village n.d. ca 1950's. A suite of 15 color woodcuts each print ca. 7.5 x 13 cxm card matted contained in a ma- tching folder with one more print layed down. These hand make prints are used for the Lunar New Year cele- bration of "Tet" in Vietnam. They are displayed inside homes and by doors to invoke or exclude what is depicted in the prints in the hopes of gaining good luck good fortune and a good social life in the New Year. These prints were made in Dung Ho village about 30 miles North of Hanoi and have been made there for hundreds of years. Hand-made printed in color by hand on woodblockss. Each print depicts a charming folk illustration in a variety of 15 celebrated and famous images or icons. . unknown‎

Tout comme son père, il vécut dans la misère. Il a gravé principalement des vues de Paris pour Cadart. Celle-ci pour L'Illustration Nouvelle. (Béraldi XII, p. 162). - Épreuve sur Vergé, à toutes marges, fraîche.‎
