Vielleicht weißt du, daß ich nach Amerika ging und für Grau und Savage im Metropolitan Operahouse in New-York dirigirte. Die dortige Presse nannte mich den Ersten, der nach dem Tode Seidel's (Anton) eine Wagneroper zur Vollendung dirigirte [...] Leider hatten die Zerwürfnisse von Grau u. Savage die Folge, daß späterhin, als wir auf Tour in den vereinigten Staaten waren, die Comp. aufgelöst wurde. Sofort übernahm ich eine Operetten-Comp. (Alice-Nielson) und ging auch mit derselben nach London, wo wir Saison hatten. Nach Amerika kehrte ich nicht zurück, s'ist zuviel - Land der Lüge und Aufgeblasenheit und - für Kunst - recht schwierig. Nun übernahm ich in England die musik. Direktion der aufstrebenden Moody-Manners Op. Co. [...] Nicht für mich, aber für mein geliebtes Weib, meine Familie wünschte ich 'mal in Deutschland, speciell in dem 'Dresdner Anzeiger' wenn's so angeht eine Notiz über mich u. meine erfolgreiche Thätigkeit speciell jetzt für grosse Oper in English am Royal Covent-Garden Operahouse in London [...] Willst du als gel. Br. für mich 'mal Etwas thun? Eine kurze Notiz durch deinen Einfluss bei der Presse Dresdens? [...]". - An einen Freund über Kompositionen, und mit der Ankündigung seines Kommens: "Anbei liegen für Sie meine beiden Erstlings-Opuse, nehmen Sie dieselben gütigst als ein Zeichen meiner ergebenen Freundschaft an. Ich bitte Sie gleichzeitig, wenn es Ihnen möglich ist und Ihnen dafür einige Augenblicke übrig bleiben, aus irgend einer Geschichte mir einige Punkte zu bezeichnen, deren Stoff sich einer Oper anpassen könnte. In den letzten 14 Tagen war ich sehr krank, und gehe ich heute für 8 Tage zur Erholung nach Berggiesshübel, dann werde ich Sie besuchen, um Sie auch um Angabe eines Lehrbuches für deutsche Metrik zum Studium zu bitten [...]". - Die Ränder gebräunt und mit kleinen Läsuren. It is followed by two articles throwing light on the representation of cities and spaces in the new cinema in Turkey, relating the art of cinema and urban research to political events in Turkey, such as immigration, coup d'etats etc. The book also has two distinct viewpoints on the use of cinematic space in documentary cinema, which is described by the stepchild of cinema in Turkey, sentenced to invisibility and triviality, by one of our contributors, Can Candan. In order to delve deeply into the city, cinema and film culture in Turkey, the book also includes a chapter on the audiences of the international film festival in Istanbul, which is consisted of a discussion on the ways in which the urban audience in Istanbul utilizes to the film festival as a definite space of movie going.".

The first guest for this series, which is devoted to founding directors of cinema in Turkey, is Lütfi Akad, who has come to be known as the "masterless master" and is a pioneer of the period referred to as the "Filmmakers Era" in the history of cinema in Turkey. An archive exhibition will be presented within the scope of the project commemorating the director s 100th birthday. Taking a look at the cinema of Lütfi Akad, whose filmography and 95-year life reflect the story of Turkish cinema, the exhibition which will be held in the cinema foyer brings together 100 pieces of archive material such as production stills, film stills, original scripts, and posters from Akad s filmography that had not seen the light of day until now. This material is accompanied by the director s words to describe his films. Akad s aptitude for observation can be seen not just in his films but in his memoirs as well. Shedding light on the birth of Yesilcam and its conditions, his writings and interviews serve as the narrator of this exhibition.

Very Good Turkish Original postcard shows Ediz Hun's color portrait photo signed and inscribed by Ediz Hun as 'Meral'e sevgilerle'. 15x11 cm. In Turkish. Ediz Hun is a Turkish film actor and politician. Hun was born in 1940 to a Circassian father and a Turkish mother. After studying at St. George's Austrian High School in Istanbul, he graduated in Biology and Environmental Science from the University of Trondheim in Norway. After he had participated in a contest organized by Ses (The Voice) magazine he was noticed by producers. He made his debut in 1963 with "Genç Kizlar" (Young Girls) opposite Hülya Koçyigit. He went on to become a household name, sometimes acting in more than 10 films in a year. On 3 March 1973, he married socialite Berna after a highly publicized affair. The couple has two children, a daughter, Bengü (born 1974), and a son, Burak (born 1981). In 1985, he became a lecturer at Marmara University. He decided to try his hand at politics and became a member of parliament for the Anavatan Partisi (Motherland Party), between the years 1999 and 2002.
