‎Les Miserables Original screenplay for the 1952 film‎

‎Los Angeles: Twentieth Century-Fox 1951. First Draft Continuity script for the 1952 film. AFI Catalog notes that the film went into production on December 26 1951 making this a draft that was probably an iteration or two short of the shooting script. Notable adaptation of Hugo's 1862 novel with Michael Rennie as Jean Valjean and Debra Paget as Cosette. Debra Paget and Robert Newton would reprise their roles for the Lux Radio Theatre hour-long adaptation in December of the same year.   An unusual adaptation in that only the barest of the usual plot elements that typically make their way into the numerous adaptations of Hugo's classic are used in this film while the remaining elements seem to be a concoction of wholly original characters and events. The AFI Catalog notes that the working title of the film was "Jean Valjean" lending credence to the idea that the filmmakers were leaning toward a version of the story more focused on that character alone. The eight-year-old Cosette a well known character from the novel is present in this draft but her scene was cut from the final film. Orange titled wrappers noted as FIRST DRAFT CONTINUITY on the front wrapper rubber-stamped copy No. 44 and No. 420 dated July 25 1951. Distribution page present with receipt removed. Title page present dated July 25 1951 noted as 1st Draft Continuity with a credit for screenwriter Murphy. 147 leaves with last page of text numbered 145. Mimeograph on eye-rest green stock. ‎The Unforgiven Original poster artwork for the 1960 film‎

‎Beverly Hills CA: United Artists 1960. Original conceptual artwork the 1960 film. Featuring a drawing of Burt Lancaster with Audrey Hepburn clasped against him. Based on the 1957 novel by Alan Le May. In many ways a reflection on John Ford's 1956 film "The Searchers" which was also based on an Alan Le May novel "The Unforgiven" tells the story of a woman taken from her Native American tribe and raised by a white family. She struggles with her allegiance towards her adoptive family and her feelings towards another white man and a bloody battle ensues between the two communities. An uncommon film for its time it highlights the racism Native Americans had to endure from settlers of the Old West. A difficult shoot which included a severe back injury sustained by Audrey Hepburn when she fell off a horse director John Huston was unhappy with his producer's insistence on releasing a more commercially friendly film. While Hepburn and Huston would both eventually distance themselves from the film "The Unforgiven" remains a bold powerfully raw take on the Western with arguably some of the best performances of many of the actors involved. 20 x 25.5 inches. Graphite and charcoal on illustration board. Very Good with some tape at the top and bottom edges the bottom two corners bumped and light toning to the extremities. Hardy The Western p. 277.
