Boardman Henry A.
A Sermon on the Death of George M. Ramsaur of North Carolina Delivered in the Tenth Presbyterian Church Philadelphia on Sabbath Evening Feb. 24 1856. A Word of Friendly Counsel to Young Men
Philadelphia: Hayes & Zell Publishers 1856. First Edition First Printing . Soft cover. Fair. 8vo. 30 pages. Soft cover bound in plain printed wrappers. The binding is worn and there is damping throughout with some browning including on the front cover and all through the text. There is about a 4 inch split on the rear hinge running up from the foot of the spine to about halfway up. George M. Ramaur was originally from Lincolnton N.C. He was born in 1832 and was on his way to Baltimore for business when his boat got stuck in the ice. Another person had fallen through the ice and Ramsaur gave him some clothing becoming sick himself from exposure. This is what killed him. Boardman's sermon tries to bring meaning to Ramsaur's short life through his selfless giving to others. The bulk of the sermon is on Boardman's preaching and not on Ramsaur's life. Not an attractive copy but still quite scarce. Housed in a removable plastic sleeve with a board backing. Sabin 6082; Thornton 1037.

Hayes & Zell, Publishers paperback

Saints' Cults in the Celtic World edited by Steve Boardman, John Reuben Davies and Eila Williamson.
Quarto in xiii, 217 pages : illustrations, maps, plans ; 24 cm; bibliographical references and index Series: Studies in Celtic History, 25. / "The ways in which saints' cults operated across and beyond political, ethnic and linguistic boundaries in the medieval British Isles and Ireland, from the sixth to the sixteenth centuries, are examined here in a series of case studies." "The papers highlight the factors that allowed particular cults to prosper in, or made them relevant to, a variety of cultural contexts. The collection has a particular emphasis on northern Britain, and the role of devotional interests in connecting or shaping a number of polities and cultural identities (Pictish, Scottish, Northumbrian, Irish, Welsh and English) in a world of fluid political and territorial boundaries." "Although the majority of the studies are concerned with the significance of cults in the insular context, many of them also touch on the development of pan-European devotions, such as the cults of Sr Brendan, the Three Kings, or St George."--Jacket. / Contents: Rochester, Hexham and CennrÌgmonaid : the movements of St Andrew in Britain, 604-747 /; James E.
