Le tome III de la Clauis Patrum Graecorum, qui etait epuise, vient d'etre a la fois reimprime et mis a jour. Ce tome, qui date de 1979 et concerne les auteurs chretiens des annees 400 a 750 environ, a ete reimprime anastatiquement, donc sans aucune correction, mais dans les marges, aux endroits convenables, un S a ete ajoute chaque fois que le Supplementum (paru en 1998) vient completer ou corriger le texte de 1979. De plus, on a profite de l'occasion pour mettre le travail a jour : une bonne cinquantaine de pages d'Addenda tiennent compte des publications de 1988-2002 ainsi que d'editions et d'etudes anterieures qui avaient echappe jusqu'ici ; pour que ces additions nouvelles ne passent pas, elles non plus, inapercues au lecteur presse, un A a ete imprime dans la marge de la reimpression anastatique, la ou il importe de consulter aussi les Addenda. Ceux-ci, comme le Supplementum de 1998, recensent evidemment quelques auteurs et un certain nombre de textes qui auparavant n'avaient pas trouve place dans le repertoire. ‎Beryl Smalley proposed a programme for Glossa Ordinaria studies as long ago as 1961, consisting of the preparation of an edition of the gloss at the time it left the hands of Master Anselm of Laon and his circle. Such an edition would, she admitted, be 'un travail de longue haleine', but 'les etudes litteraires en beneficeraient aussi bien que les etudes theologiques'. Reviewing the situation twenty years later, Smalley regretfully noted that no one as yet has made a critical edition of any part of the Gloss. Another ten years passed before an edition of the Gloss was published: this, however, was no new edition but a facsimile - albeit a most handsome and useful one - of the first printed edition of the Gloss, Adolph Rusch's Strassburg edition of 1480/81. The present edition of the Glossa Ordinaria on the Song of Songs is offered as a contribution to the programme Smalley proposed. While it does not pretend to be a full critical edition of the text, since a fully comprehensive investigation of the entire manuscript tradition would have ensured that this particular part of the Gloss would remain unedited this side of the new millennium, Smalley's suggestion of reproducing the early text of the Glossed Song of Songs, a text based on manuscripts dated c. 1120 - c.1170. Smalley was quite right to claim that the importance of the Gloss as a whole is as much literary as theological, and perhaps this makes the Glossed Song of Songs a particularly appropriate part of the whole to make available. Ever since this book of the Bible was given the title Shir haShirim, the best of songs, its literary excellence has always been recognised. To medievalists, the pervasiveness of its influence on the literature of the Middle Ages, in Latin and in the vernaculars, is a commonplace, yet the text that medieval writers were influenced by was rarely sola scriptura. ‎Kerygma Petri (Kerygme de Pierre ou Predication de Pierre) fait partie des textes chretiens les plus anciens, puisque il a du voir le jour en Egypte entre les annees 100 et 120. En un temps ou l'affirmation chretienne se cherchait selon des voies plurielles, l'apocryphe petrinien affiche une theologie bien typee, a la fois religieuse et intellectuelle, une sorte de ? gnose ? qui se tient cependant dans le courant central du christianisme. Le Kerygme de Pierre n'existe pour nous que sous forme d'une serie de fragments, peu nombreux mais significatifs, dont nous devons la conservation surtout a Clement d'Alexandrie. Le jeu des citations du Kerygme de Pierre dans les ecrits de Clement merite de retenir l'attention : l'auteur des Stromates cite volontiers cette oeuvre qu'il considerait comme une production de Pierre en personne et dont il est, en meme temps, un utilisateur interesse. C'etait deja le cas, au milieu du 2e siecle, pour le gnostique Heracleon au dire d'Origene. Au centre de l'apocryphe petrinien se tient une Exhortation de Pierre aux chretiens (Fragments 2 a 5) : elle confronte les trois religions (la paienne, la juive, la chretienne) et les caracterise en fonction de la perception du Dieu createur et transcendant. Les autres fragments du Kerygme de Pierre (Fragments 1 et 6-10) dessinent des espaces de sens precis concernant la mission et la conversion, l'hermeneutique et la christologie. Pierre et les Douze sont presentes comme detenteurs du monopole de la mission en Israel et dans le monde. La conversion est une transformation intellectuelle et l'intelligence est la compagne de la foi. Un biblicisme chretien s'affirme ( ? Nous ne disons rien sans l'Ecriture ? ) ; et les etapes de la carriere de Jesus sont indiquees a l'aide de testimonia, de textes-preuves deja traditionnels. Le personnage du Christ semble relever '?une ? christologie haute ? : il est salue comme ? Loi et Logos ? et peut-etre est-il associe au Createur comme Commencement et Puissance personnifies. Mais le message fondamental qui traverse le Kerygme de Pierre est celui du monotheisme, non pas un monotheisme judeo-chretien consensuel, mais un monotheisme specifiquement chretien - presente de maniere polemique. Ce ? monotheisme christologique ? de l'apocryphe petrinien est au centre du mandat missionnaire du Ressuscite et de la predication apostolique ; il se nourrit de l'accomplissement pascal des propheties et il constitue la pierre de touche de la valeur des religions. Cette reflexion n'est donc pas sans interet pour le debat actuel sur les monotheismes et les religions. Tels sont quelques uns des problemes litteraires et theologiques qu'aborde la presente etude qui s'articule autour de trois axes : (1) une analyse detaillee des contextes citationnels dans lesquels les fragments du Kerygme de Pierre sont transmis ; (2) une nouvelle edition du texte grec accompagnee d'une traduction ; et (3) un commentaire approfondi de chacun des fragments, qui prete une attention soutenue a la litterature intertestamentaire juive et aux anciens apocryphes chretiens. ‎Published in 2010, this Latin-Spanish lexicon, or more precisely Latin-Romance-Spanish, studies the vocabulary of historiographical and diplomatic texts written in the kingdom of Leon - with the exception of Galicia - between the eighth century and 1230, the date of the definitive union between the kingdoms of Leon and Castille. Each entry provides all the written variants of the term in question, its etymology, its meaning or meanings, numerous examples presented in relatively extended contexts, and thorough commentaries and linguistic and historical notes. As well as constituting an indispensable tool for anyone interested in the history of the kingdom of Leon, it also of wider interest, especially linguistic. Indeed, the texts analysed are written in a language that may be described as both 'Latino-Romance' and 'diplomatic medieval Latin' (Cf. Introduction, p. LXIII). Paru en 2010, ce lexique latin-espagnol, ou plus precisement latino-roman-espagnol, etudie le vocabulaire des textes historiographiques et surtout diplomatiques ecrits dans le royaume de Leon - a l'exception de la Galice ', entre le VIIIe siecle et 1230, date de l'union definitive entre les royaumes de Leon et de Castille. Chaque article fournit toutes les variantes graphiques du terme concerne, son etymologie, sa ou ses significations, de nombreux exemples, presentes dans des contextes relativement etendus, des commentaires et notes linguistiques et historiques developpes. Il s'agit d'un instrument de travail qui sera tres utile tant a l'historien qu'au linguiste. La inmensa mayoria de los paises de Europa Occidental han publicado o estan publicando su lexico latino-medieval, importantisimo para cualesquiera estudios medievales. En la Peninsula Iberica la elaboracion y publicacion de lexicos latino-medievales se encuentran en un estado incipiente. El Lexicon Latinitatis Medii Aevi Castellae et Legionis (LELMACEL) viene a completar ese vacio. Consiste en la elaboracion y redaccion de un diccionario latino-romance a partir de los textos escritos en latin, o mayoritariamente en latin, desde los comienzos de la Reconquista hasta 1230 en los territorios que pertenecieron a los reinos asturleones y castellano durante ese periodo. De dichos territorios se ha excluido la zona gallega y la portuguesa. El corpus del diccionario esta formado tanto por las obras mas o menos literarias, principalmente cronicas, como por los documentos notariales compuestos en esos dos reinos. Como particularidades del trabajo en el LELMACEL hay que destacar las siguientes: se trabaja sobre un corpus de textos mayoritariamente informatizado; en el estudio de los lemmata se procede por campos lexicos, no por orden alfabetico; se recogen todos los terminos del corpus base y todos sus significados. ‎William of Malmesbury's Commentary on Lamentations is one of the rare works of biblical commentary produced by an English Benedictine in the twelfth century. Surviving complete in a single manuscript, and in burnt fragments of another, it is here edited for the first time. Although the work is explicitly based upon the ninth-century commentary by Paschasius, it is enriched by William's own wide and deep reading of the Bible, the Fathers and the Latin Classics. Here we find the great historian grappling with theological and moral issues both universal and personal, as he attempts to understand God's disciplining of His people, whether understood as the Jews, the Church, or the English of William's own day. ‎The first critical text of the widely and enormously influential Meditaciones vite Christi responds to a declared desideratum of scholars in a large number of disciplines dealing with devotional and mystical literature of the Middle Ages. A medieval 'bestseller' at one time attributed to Saint Bonaventure, this text at last sheds its neo-Latin overlay and sets in charming outline a synthesis of the new Franciscan movement. After examining over 100 manuscripts, Stallings-Taney has identified 4 manuscripts which contain a text unaltered by neo-Latin standards. She has collated these 4 as well as 7 fourteenth and fifteenth century manuscripts (edited as early as the fourteenth century according to neo-Latin standards) against the Vatican 1596 recension. The consensus of the early 4 manuscripts sets in place the original Italianized Latin of John of Caulibus, a humble Tuscan Franciscan, who had no other goal than the spiritual direction of an unknown Poor Clare nun. The consensus of the later manuscripts, recorded in the critical apparatus, preserves the neo-Latin text known to such translators as J. Meadows Cowper and Nicholas Love. Additionally, Stallings-Taney has re-established several lengthy passages once a part of the original text, but dropped in some of the printed recensions. Of special interest to liturgists is the extensive Index locorum liturgiae as well as the Index locorum S. Scripturae. An Instrumenta Lexicologica Latina fascicle will also be available very soon. ‎Adson, qui fut ecolatre a Toul, puis abbe de Montier-en-Der et proche de Gerbert d'Aurillac, Richer de Reims et Abbon de Fleury, est celebre par la Lettre (ou Traite) sur l'Antichrist qu'il a dediee a la reine Gerberge, et qui fut publiee il y a vingt-cinq ans dans le volume n? 45 de la Continuatio Medievalis du Corpus Christianorum. Son oeuvre hagiographique, l'une des plus importantes qui aient ete ecrites sur le territoire francais au Xe siecle, n'avait en revanche jamais recu d'edition critique ; par son homogeneite elle revele pourtant un veritable homme de metier, et fournit un precieux temoignage sur le travail des hagiographes du haut Moyen Age. En tete de ce volume, une introduction generale revient sur la chronologie d'Adson, et surtout sur les problemes d'attribution, a partir de criteres historiques et litteraires. Elle reconnait cinq oeuvres hagiographiques authentiques, et cinq seulement : les Vies des saints Frodobert, Walbert, Mansuy, Basle et Berchaire, qui furent tous pionniers de la premiere vague d'evangelisation du Nord-Est de la Gaule (Mansuy) ou de la periode merovingienne de fondations monastiques (les quatre autres). Chaque edition, etablie a partir de la totalite des temoins manuscrits connus, est precedee d'une introduction specifique et accompagnee d'une annotation historique detaillee. ‎Nachdem Lull dem intellektuellen Erkennen und Erforschen der Realitat die Ars inventiva (op. 44) gewidmet hatte, versuchte er in der Ars amativa darzustellen, wie die erkannte und verstandene Realitat durch die Willenskraft bzw. durch die Liebe intensiv angeeignet wird. Dient die Ars inventiva der Gotteserkenntnis, so die Ars amativa der Gottesliebe. Die Ars amativa gehort in die Struktur der ars lulliana, von der sie ihr ontologisches Fundament, ihre argumentative Logik und die Kombinatorik der vier in der Ars inventiva entwickelten Figuren ubernimmt. Zu Beginn werden die achtzehn Prinzipien vorgestellt, welche anschliessend durch die Figuren visualisiert und dem kombinatorischen System integriert werden. Im zweiten Teil werden die in zwei Gruppen geordneten Regeln, d. h. achtzehn Modalitaten, vorgestellt, die sowohl fur das Erforschen und Erkennen des Wahren wie fur das Wollen und Lieben des Guten eingesetzt werden mussen. Im dritten Teil werden die achtzehn principia artis in bezug auf die Liebe bestimmt, um die spezifischen Aspekte einer 'Kunst' der Liebe zu entfalten. Nach einer einleitenden philosophischen Erorterung wird die fur Lull entscheidende dynamische Funktion des Liebens in der Erkenntnis der Realitat angesprochen. Im vierten Teil werden die behandelten principia charakterisiert und personifiziert. Anhand der vierten Figur der Ars inventiva werden dann 833 'Bedingungen' aufgestellt, die aus allen moglichen Kombinationen zwischen den in Dreiergruppen aufgeteilten achtzehn principia entstehen. Diese 'Bedingungen' sind kurze, ahnlich den 'moralischen Metaphern' des beruhmten Liber amici et amati formulierte Erzahlungen: Die zu handelnden Personen verwandelten Prinzipien reden, zeigen Gefuhle und diskutieren unter sich, jedes in der ihm vorher per definitionem zugeschriebenen Rolle. Im funften Teil werden zunachst 833 Fragen gestellt, eine zu jeder im vorangehenden Teil erzahlten 'Bedingung', und danach zwanzig ausfuhrliche Fragen, die mittels Kombination innerhalb der Figuren entstanden sind und auf die je eine Losung folgt. Im Epilog erscheinen die personifizierten Prinzipien zusammen mit der Liebe, dem Freund und dem Geliebten auf einer Buhne und fordern die Prinzipien auf, sich mehr um die Liebe zu kummern und die einseitige Ausrichtung auf den Intellekt zu beenden. Die Edition des zweiten, wesentlich kurzeren Textes dieses Bandes, Quaestiones quas quaesivit quidam frater minor, hat freundlicherweise Prof. Dr. Francesco Santi, Lecce/Firenze, ubernommen. Wir danken ihm dafur, dass er seine Erfahrung und Kompetenz bei der Edition lateinischer Texte des Mittelalters in den Dienst der Herausgabe dieses kleinen, wichtigen und bislang unedierten Werkes Lulls gestellt hat. Es handelt sich um eine Sammlung von 32 Fragen, die laut Lull von einem Franziskaner, der im Text nicht in Erscheinung tritt, gestellt wurden und mit Hilfe der Ars inventiva, teils auch der Ars amativa und vor allem des Liber chaos gelost werden. Es geht vor allem um naturphilosophische Fragen (erste Ursache, Schopfung, Ewigkeit der Welt, Zeit und Raum), aber auch um das Verhaltnis zwischen der Sprache der zeitgenossischen Metaphysik und der lullschen Theologie. ‎Ruusbroec (1293-1381) puts the Netherlands on the map of worldliterature. His greatness as a mystic author has been acknowledged internationally. His works contains eleven treatises and seven letters. There have been two editions of his work so far: one by J.-B.David (1858-1868) and one by the Ruusbroecgenootschap (1932-1934). Neither of these editions meets modern standards. Therefore a new critical edition was urgently needed. Of the ten volumes planned in this new edition, volume seven is the fifth to appear.The Middle Dutch text is based on a critical study of all manuscripts. Besides the Middle Dutch text the edition contains a new American-English translation and the Latin translation by L.Surius O.Carth. (1552). The edition of the Middle Dutch text is critically reconstructive. ‎These two editions present Peter Abelard's Exposition of the Biblical Hexameron and a work which is a shorter version of this and which is usually called an Abbreviation. In his Exposition, which is much influenced by the commentaries of St Augustine, Abelard gives priority to the historical and literal sense and attempts a naturalistic explanation of the process of creation while retaining symbolic and moral interpretations. Like his contemporaries, William of Conches and Thierry of Chartres, Abelard shows an especial interest in Plato's Timaeus, in chaos theory, in the four elements, and in the anima mundi. But his Exposition is also a profoundly religious work. The manuscripts and the contributions of their various scribes are closely examined in an Introduction in which the possibility is considered that one of these scribes may be Abelard himself. Additions and changes made by the scribes are printed in different types in the edition which follows. A separate Introduction assesses the nature of the Abbreviation and compares it with the Exposition. The two editions were begun by Mary Romig+ and Charles Burnett respectively. ‎Scholarly appreciation of the Questions and Answers attributed to Anastasios of Sinai (CPG 7746) changed radically in 1969 with the publication by Marcel Richard of his short, but very dense, article, "Les veritables 'Questions et reponses' d'Anastase le Sinaite". By investigating the manuscript tradition Richard was able to establish that the version published by the German Jesuit, Jacob Gretser (1617), represented a revised version of the original and could not be much earlier than the eleventh century, whereas Anastasios had died shortly after 700. Richard further suggested that various other versions had existed before this and had been used by the later compiler, notably a collection of 88 questions. Gretser had also drawn on one of only 15 questions. Richard identified one other collection that seemed indebted to the original. Although Richard was the first to claim that he had discovered the original collection, from the time of Gretser all who had come across "Anastasian" quaestiones et responsiones had been aware that the published collection did not reflect the evidence of the manuscripts. Already in 1575 the French scholar Gentianus Hervet had published a Latin translation of what was in fact the collection of 88 questions. This collection had attracted wide attention because of its presence - in translation - in the Slavonic Izbornik of 1073. The present editor, Joseph A. Munitiz was asked by Richard shortly before his death in 1976 to complete the edition of the original collection. One might have hoped that since 1976, and in particular with the collation of the manuscripts discovered by Richard - for he himself had not drawn up any apparatus criticus for his proposed edition - it would have been possible to establish a text that was reasonably close to that first composed by the monk of Sinai. But it became clear over the years that some uncertainty was likely to remain. The many revisions and adaptations suffered by the original text meant that very few uncontaminated witnesses had slipped through the sieve created by Byzantine librarians and copyists. Only two manuscripts preserving a large proportion of the original collection have survived. Fortunately, a small number of partial manuscripts, and the evidence of the other Collections, allows one to build up a likely text. The haphazard nature of the content of the Original Collection does suggest that the whole collection may have originated after the death of Anastasios. A disciple or group of admirers may have felt that it would be helpful to publish the various questions and answers that had been composed during the author's lifetime and found in a dossier among his papers. At present this Original Collection contains the answers to certain groups of answers (e.g. concerning providence, alms giving, salvation of the non-baptised, wonders and prophecies, sexual ethics, forgiveness of sins), but intercalated among them are isolated problems with no obvious connection (e.g. concerning capital punishment, Paradise, dreams, female infertility). They all fall under the general heading of pastoral theology and are clearly intended to deal with the preoccupations of a lay, rather than a monastic, audience, even if their preservation was ensured by largely monastic compilations. Le textus prior et le textus alter sont les deux versions du Verbum adbreuiatum qui se retrouvent assemblees dans le textus conflatus precedemment edite (CC CM, 196). D'une tradition nombreuse et complexe emerge un socle de base, present dans la majorite des manuscrits. Conserve en entier dans un seul manuscrit, c'est par son style que le textus alter se distingue le plus du textus prior (CC CM, 196A). Il s'agit probablement d'un texte de predicateur qui s'adresse parfois directement a son auditoire, ne craint pas de l'admonester avec une certaine violence et raconte des histoires detaillees destinees a servir d'exemples. ‎Les Versus d'Isidore de Seville (connus aussi dans la tradition litteraire comme Versus in Bibliotheca, meme si ce titre ne s'accorde pas exactement au contenu et a l'esprit de cet ouvrage) constituent un cas singulier dans la vaste production de cet auteur. Ces distiques elegiaques, de construction presque parfaite la plupart des fois, sont les heritiers d'une longue tradition du genre epigrammique qui remonte a l'Antiquite classique et notamment aux modeles de son compatriote Martial. La presente edition critique met a la disposition du grand public un ouvrage unique qui a eu neanmoins enormement de succes de son epoque. Une quarantaine de manuscrits du VIIe au XVIe siecles (beaucoup d'entre eux inconnus jusqu'a present) ont ete collationnes pour mener a bout cette edition. La plupart des lectures de ces manuscrits ont ete retenues pour l'apparat critique et ont contribue a l'etablissement d'un texte profondement solide. Le lecteur pourra y trouver un apparat critique rigoureux ainsi qu'un autre apparat de sources accompagnant chacun des tituli isidoriens et leur correspondante traduction castillane qui vise a transmettre non seulement le contenu du texte latin le plus fidelement possible, mais aussi une bonne partie des procedes stylistiques employes par l'auteur. L'Etude critique qui precede l'edition proprement dite consacre plus d'une centaine de pages a la description exhaustive de tous les temoins manuscrits et des editions utilisees pour l'etablissement du stemma codicum. L'histoire de la tradition du texte a revele l'importance de cet ouvrage apparemment peu significatif et a permis a l'editeur de reconstruire un processus de diffusion tres rapide depuis le scriptorium de Seville jusqu'aux Iles Britanniques, la France carolingienne et les territoires italiens et germaniques.
