Avviene che l'artista di oggi si fa tanto partecipe dell'artista di ieri da identificarsi con lui, da scriverne una biografia interiore come questa, in prima persona ma non romanzata, facendo proprio il linguaggio tecnico dell'altro. È quanto è avvenuto a G.A. Spadaro nei confronti di Francesco Borromini. Una narrazione che ha precise basi nella realtà e all'immaginazione concede solo quel che è necessario per riempire verosimilmente i vuoti che la cronaca e la storia hanno lasciato. Francesco Borromini in una crisi d'ipocondria, la mattina del 2 agosto 1667 si gettò sulla propria spada, alla maniera degli Antichi, e morì alle cinque pomeridiane: Spadaro lo vede sul letto d'agonia mentre ripensa l'intera sua vita, dagli esordi come scalpellino alla Fabbrica di San Pietro sino a diventare uno degli architetti più famosi della Roma barocca, in perenne contrasto col Bernini. La descrizione delle vicissitudini umane del Borromini è rigorosa, quella delle motivazioni di tipo simbolico-esoterico del tutto plausibile.

Veduta tratta da Il quarto libro del nuovo teatro dei palazzi in prospettiva di Roma moderna, pubblicato da Domenico de Rossi nel 1699, come quarto libro a completamento del Il nuovo teatro delle fabriche, et edificii, in prospettiva di Roma moderna. Libro primo (secondo, terzo) di Giovan Battista Falda (G. Giacomo de Rossi, 1665-1669). Una delle più belle raccolte di tavole sulla Roma barocca, alla cui rappresentazione si accompagna un intento celebrativo della politica papale. L'opera, infatti, aveva lo scopo di divulgare la nuova immagine della città, con le sue chiese e i suoi palazzi. Dopo la morte di Giovanni Battista Falda (1643-1678) e per far seguito alla sua celebre opera sulle 'fabbriche', un quarto libro fu curato dall'architetto e incisore romano Alessandro Specchi (1668-1729) per descrivere le imprese edilizie volute da Innocenzo XII Pignatelli. A differenza di quelle di Falda, queste sono incisioni che inseriscono gli edifici nel loro contesto cittadino in modo che non solo ne raccontano la struttura architettonica ma – con uno scenario di carrozze e cavalli, servi e padroni, bottegai e garzoni – ne suggeriscono anche l'uso sociale. Vengono così fuori una serie di quadri della città che anticipano le caratteristiche vedute settecentesche. Acquaforte, in buono stato di conservazione. Book one (second, third) by Giovan Battista Falda (G. Giacomo de Rossi, 1665-1669). One of the most beautiful collections of plates on Baroque Rome, whose representation is accompanied by a celebratory intent of papal policy. The work, in fact, was intended to disseminate the new image of the city, with its churches and palaces. After the death of Giovanni Battista Falda (1643-1678) and to follow up his famous work on the 'fabbriche', a fourth book was edited by the Roman architect and engraver Alessandro Specchi (1668-1729) to describe the building enterprises commissioned by Innocent XII Pignatelli. Unlike Falda's engravings, these are engravings that place the buildings in their urban context in such a way that they not only describe their architectural structure but - with a scenario of carriages and horses, servants and masters, shopkeepers and servants - also suggest their social use. The result is a series of pictures of the city that anticipate the characteristic eighteenth-century views. Etching, in very good condition.

Tratta da Il quarto libro del nuovo teatro dei palazzi in prospettiva di Roma moderna, pubblicato da Domenico de Rossi nel 1699, come quarto libro a completamento del Il nuovo teatro delle fabriche, et edificii, in prospettiva di Roma moderna. Libro primo (secondo, terzo) di Giovan Battista Falda (G. Giacomo de Rossi, 1665-1669). Una delle più belle raccolte di tavole sulla Roma barocca, alla cui rappresentazione si accompagna un intento celebrativo della politica papale. L'opera, infatti, aveva lo scopo di divulgare la nuova immagine della città, con le sue chiese e i suoi palazzi. Dopo la morte di Giovanni Battista Falda (1643-1678) e per far seguito alla sua celebre opera sulle 'fabbriche', un quarto libro fu curato dall'architetto e incisore romano Alessandro Specchi (1668-1729) per descrivere le imprese edilizie volute da Innocenzo XII Pignatelli. A differenza di quelle di Falda, queste sono incisioni che inseriscono gli edifici nel loro contesto cittadino in modo che non solo ne raccontano la struttura architettonica ma – con uno scenario di carrozze e cavalli, servi e padroni, bottegai e garzoni – ne suggeriscono anche l'uso sociale. Disegno, e prospetto del romano Campidoglio moderno, con le sue fabriche et ornamenti, come al presente si trova, dato in luce sotto gl'auspicij dell'Ill.mo, et Ecc.mo Sig. Marchese Ottavio Riario senatore di Roma da Domenico de Rossi Erede di Gio. Giac.o de Rossi nella sua stamparia in Roma alla Pace Vista frontale del Campidoglio con carro in primo piano. Incisione pubblicata da Domenico de' Rossi nel 1692. Il cartiglio in basso a destra contiene la Nota delle cose Memorabili nel disegno, e Prospetto del Moderno Campidoglio, con le note sugli elementi più importanti. Al centro in basso, l'iscrizione Alessandro Spechi disegno e intaglio. Acquaforte e bulino, impressa su carta vergata coeva, restauro nell'angolo inferiore destro e alla piega centrale, per il resto in buono stato di conservazione. La veduta di Specchi è la prima rappresentazione di un certo tipo: “ […] l’evoluzione sia della sensibilità di artisti, committenti e clienti, sia del modo di considerare il Campidoglio non più come un monumento isolato sulla collina, ma come parte del tessuto e dei percorsi urbani. Esse riguardano almeno tre parametri compositivi e prospettici: gli artisti iniziarono ad abbassare gradualmente l’orizzonte prospettico portandolo verso alla quota della piazza. Questo è evidente nell’incisione di Alessandro Specchi del 1692, che mostra l’orizzonte geometrico all’altezza del marcapiano degli edifici laterali, che sarà il riferimento per i successivi “ritratti” di Giuseppe Vasi, del Canaletto e di Giovanni Paolo Pannini; gli artisti iniziarono ad includere sia l’intera cordonata sia parte della sottostante piazza dell’Aracoeli; gli artisti iniziarono ad utilizzare punti di fuga eccentrici rispetto all’asse di simmetria e ad allargare il campo visivo per includere gli edifici limitrofi, in particolare la chiesa dell’Aracoeli” (cfr. Specchi's view is the first representation of a certain type: "the evolution of both the sensitivity of artists, clients and customers, and of the way of considering the Capitol no longer as an isolated monument on the hill, but as part of the urban fabric and routes. They concern at least three compositional and perspective parameters: the artists began to gradually lower the perspective horizon, bringing it towards the level of the piazza. Presente nell'indice De Rossi, 1724, al costo "di 20 baiocchi".La prospettiva, molto dettagliata, presenta gli ornamenti voluti da papa Clemente X e mostra anche le due cappelle, la paolina e la sistina, che furono fatte edificare da papa Paolo V e da Sisto V, che nella piazza fece anche trasportare l'obelisco proceniente dal Mausoleo di Augusto. Incisione in rame, in ottimo stato di conservazione. Veduta della Tribuna di Santa Maria Maggiore, disegnata e incisa da Alessandro Specchi e pubblicata da Domenico de Rossi.
