A lovely tight and bright first edition of this detailed guide through a number of old New York neighborhoods with a superb autograph addition: Tipped to an inner flyleaf is an Autograph Quotation Signed from Janvier 1p lettersheet 4½" X 7" St. Remy de Provenee France 28 January 1895. Boldly penned in thick black ink Janvier pens within quotation marks a funny excerpt about books in faux old English: "As there bee Appel trees stunted wych yet doe yielde perchance one single Appell that is faire soe even a booke foolishe in its varse may contain heer or ther a little bitte yt is goode." Signed after in full with and place where the Provencal descended author lived for three years and used as a setting in several books. An outstanding and unusual copy of this uncommon title.
