The Wilderness Road ran from Louisville Kentucky through Tennessee and ended at Wadkin's Ferry Virginia. Unique autograph addition: Tipped to an inner flyleaf is a nice content Typed Letter Signed from Kincaid 1893-1960 1p 8¼" X 11" Harrogate TN 1956 November 1. Addressed to noted Lincoln/Civil War scholar Arnold F. Gates 1914-93. Near fine. On "Lincoln Memorial University" letterhead citing Kincaid as president he chats cordially with this officer of the New York Civil War Round Table. In part: "Many thanks for the little packet of material you have turned over to us since we collect everything!! This will go into the tender hands of Bill Taylor and will be integrated into our loaded files of Lincoln and Civil War material." Goes on about Round Table matters. ‎Textes sur les conditions de vie des Noirs américains dans les années 1960 et sur les propositions politiques du pasteur américain, leader de la révolution noire. — "... Martin Luther King affirmait : « ... Quand le peuple est enlisé dans l'oppression, il ne peut se délivrer qu'après avoir accumulé assez de pouvoir pour provoquer les changements nécessaires. S'il acquiert cette force, la rédaction d'un programme n'est presque plus qu'un détail administratif. Peu importe qui présente le programme ; ce qui compte, c'est de pouvoir peser sur les événements. Les puissants ne laissent jamais passer les occasions, car elles leur restent toujours accessibles. Notre auteur est allé plus avant dans son analyse, pour constater quelques points de faiblesse de sa propre doctrine : « Reconnaissons franchement que ces dernières années, nous n'avons appliqué ni notre imagination, ni notre puissance créatrice à apprendre à développer notre pouvoir. Dans la non-violence, nous avons trouvé une méthode de protestation efficace et nous l'avons employée avec enthousiasme... Malgré leur hardiesse, et bien qu'elles fussent couronnées de succès, nos manifestations étaient surtout improvisées et spontanées. » Ce qui précède est une leçon de courage et d'humilité. Martin Luther King, dans « le feu de l'action » a su conserver une lucidité remarquable. Il savait que la solution du problème noir aux Etats-Unis ne souffrait pas la fragmentation et qu'il fallait l'aborder dans sa globalité : « Donc, pour le moment, nos programmes dépendront de l'analyse des leviers de commande que les Noirs doivent saisir pour peser sur les événements. Dans notre Société, les sources du pouvoir sont parfois obscures. Mais leurs traces remontent finalement toujours aux forces mêmes que j'ai qualifiées d'idéologiques, économiques et politiques. » Et le livre se termine par un appendice comportant les programmes et perspectives en matière d'enseignement, d'emploi, de droits, de logement. Martin Luther King est mort, moins de quarante-cinq jours avant la parution de son livre en français. Sa disparition a bouleversé ceux qui, dans le monde, suivent avec angoisse l'évolution du problème noir aux Etats-Unis. Deux mois après la mort de l'apôtre de la non-violence, son assassin court toujours..." "Its history began with the founding of the San Francisco Stock and Bond Exchange in 1882 and the Los Angeles Oil Exchange in 1899. In 1956 the tSan Francisco Stock and Bond Exchange in 1882 and the Los Angeles Oil Exchange merged to create the Pacific Coast Stock Exchange though trading floors were maintained in both cities. In 1973 it was renamed the Pacific Stock Exchange and it began trading options three years later in 1976. In 1999 the exchange became the first U. S. Stock exchange to demutualize.
