‎"L'auteur, qui commandait les destroyers américains à Pearl Harbor lors de l'attaque du 7 décembre 1941, a réuni ici une documentation abondante pour prouver la thèse suivante : le gouvernement américain, c'est-à-dire le président Roosevelt, fut bien informé des plans japonais, mais il ne fit rien pour en empêcher la réalisation ; il ne les communiqua même pas au commandement de la flotte, afin que l'émotion provoquée par l' « attaque surprise » des Japonais amène l'opinion américaine à sortir de la neutralité. Cette thèse est loin d'emporter la conviction, mais le livre intéressera sans nul doute tous les historiens de la deuxième guerre mondiale." (Revue française de science politique, 1956) — "Le dossier de l'attaque japonaise contre Pearl-Harbor est déjà volumineux, mais il nous manquait la thèse de ceux qui firent d'abord figure d'accusés. Le contre-amiral Theobald, qui commandait les destroyers à Pearl-Harbor lors de l'agression du 7 décembre 1941, a réuni dans un volume clair et précis les arguments et les documents qui tendent à décharger les chefs militaires de toute responsabilité pour en faire retomber le poids entièrement sur le président Roosevelt. On ne s'étonnera pas que l'amiral Kimmel, qui commandait alors la flotte du Pacifique, et l'amiral de la flotte Halsey, aient donné à cette étude deux préfaces pleines de reconnaissance. Ce dernier présente l'amiral Kimmel et le général Short comme de "grands martyrs militaires". Les voilà maintenant lavés de tout soupçon. Les informations et, en particulier, les "messages Magic" qui auraient pu les éclairer sur la gravité de la situation et sur les intentions japonaises n'avaient pas été portés à leur connaissance. Les documents produits lors de l'enquête de la commission Roberts ont permis de blanchir les secrétaires à la guerre et à la marine, le général Marshall et l'amiral Stark. "Si Pearl-Harbor fut un désastre du point de vue naval, écrit l'auteur, ce fut aussi le prélude à la défaite totale des puissances de l'Axe." La réserve des isolationnistes disparut en effet lorsque l'opinion américaine apprit qu'au matin du 7 décembre 1941 l'agression japonaise avait provoqué la mort de 4.303 marins et soldats, en détruisant six cuirassés et une centaine d'avions. L'Amérique entrait en guerre sans soupçonner que Roosevelt avait sciemment maintenu dans les eaux hawaïennes une flotte affaiblie, comme pour inviter le Japon à l'attaquer, et que le premier souci du président était d'entraîner le pays dans le conflit. L'auteur évite de formuler le moindre jugement. Il se contente d'exposer, d'analyser, de rétablir la chronologie des faits, écartant toute "discussion morale" sur l'habileté avec laquelle Roosevelt sut vaincre l'isolationnisme des États-Unis. Mais le lecteur possédera tous les éléments d'une méditation sur l'art d'engager un peuple dans un conflit en laissant à l'adversaire le rôle d'agresseur." A proclamation that was issued for a rally at the Lincoln Memorial attended by about 1000 people on Juneteenth June 19 1970 on the occasion of BPP's call for a " Revolutionary People's Constitutional Convention". The purpose for the convention was to rewrite the US Constitution to ensure equal rights for oppressed groups including African Americans women and young people. Newsprint 1 sheet 4 pages with centerfold 11 3/8" x 17 1/2" opening to 22 3/4" x 17 1/2". Horizontal fold at center Very Good Plus horizontal crease near top edge small old tape mends at corners rear. Printed with titles front and rear text interior in four columns ending with the phrase "ALL POWER TO THE PEOPLE".
