‎New York: Geo. Borgfeldt & Co 1905. Hardcover. Very good. 84 pp extensively illustrated with portraits and views of the company's various branches and departments. Bound in half-cloth and dark-green paper-covered boards with lovely art nouveau design stamped in black endpapers patterened with the company logo attractive design features throughout. Foot of spine bumped foxing to last four pages binding has a little play but overall a nice copy. Laid in is an embossed compliments card sent with the book printed on thick cardstock and dated January 1 1906. Founded in 1881 Geo. Borgfeldt & Company was best known as an importer and distributer of dolls and other toys but also dealt in china and cut glass stationery musical instruments imported glassware household furnishings decorative objects and a variety of "notions' and "fancy goods." Later in the 20th century the company would obtain the first major contract to sell Disney character merchandise. According to this book -- the only published history of this successful company - George Borgfeldt "conceived of the idea" of being able to offer Americans merchants easier access to a variety of foreign goods by "assembling in New York samples of the products of the best factories of Europe manufacturing dolls toys and kindred articles and of booking import orders through the display of these samples." His first location at 83 Leonard Street in New York City had 6.750 square feet of display space in which 100000 items were available for inspection by wholesale buyers. The text goes on to describe the evolution of this sales model and the company's subsequent growth. Separate short sections summarize the history of each of the different sales departments. Geo. ‎Visiting Nurse Association. Very good. Undated c. 1920s trade/advertising card for the Visting Nurse Association of New Britain Connecticut. 3.5 x 6 inches. Light soiling and edgewear about very good. Text on one side describes what visiting nurses do including offering in-home care to the sick advising expectant mothers "on matters of hygeine" teaching general health information and holding "Well Baby Conferences" where babies are weighted and mothers advised as to their proper care. On the other side is a list of rates but also a noted that "where patients cannot afford to pay stated prices less amounts are acceptable and free care when necessary." Visiting nurse associations were formed in many cities in the northeastern United States in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. At the beginning of her career Gina tried passing herself off as a French actress but was later discovered to be born and bred from Cincinnati. Gina's most famous movie roles were "Waltz Time" 1933 "Chamber of Horrors" 1940 and "Jack of All Trades" 1936. As her screen career began to falter she concentrated on performing in regional repertory theaters in the U.S. and Canada. Married to Romney Brent. <br /> <br />Romney Brent 1902-1976 Romulo Larralde Romney was a diplomat's son Mexican-born actor who made his debut in 1922 in the Theater Guild's production of "He Who Gets Slapped." Acting in more than 35 plays most of them on Broadway including "The Fourposter" in 1953 in which he and Sylvia Sydney costarred in the roles created by Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy. Brent both wrote and directed in the US and abroad also appearing in a number of films including "The Adventures of Don Juan" starring Errol Flynn. Brent enlisted in the Canadian Army at the outbreak of World War II and spent the early 1960's traveling through Europe and South America at the head of the repertory company under the aegis of the State Department. <br/><br/> unknown books‎

Compelling articles include Ephedra Congo Medicine and The Medicine Man; with an early article about "Dr. Seuss" and his early illustrating work for The Standard Oil Company of New Jersey. The story goes something like this: After one of Geisel's cartoons that appeared in Judge Magazine mentioned FLIT a common bug spray at the time Geisel signed on with The Standard Oil Company and produced illustrations from May 31 1928 through 1941 which in turn helped him gain notoriety and landed him assignments with Life Liberty and Vanity Fair. Additionally a full two-page center spread color illustrated of Garbo in 1915 and again in 1933. This publication seems to be the first and last published. Covers chipped rubbed and soiled. ‎Treaty Between the United States and the Rogue River Indians‎

‎1855. Softcover. Very good. Folio 7 pp printed on blue paper in two unsewn unbound gatherings. Minor handling wear; near fine. The Rogue River Indians were not a single tribe but a conglomeration of several groups living in the Rogue River Valley of southwestern Oregon. This treaty was concluded by Indian Service Superintendent Joel Palmer on November 15 1854. According to Eberstadt it allowed the United States "to settle other Indian tribes on the Table Rock Reserve. In return the Rogue River Indians were to receive twelve horses one beef two yokes of oxen coats pants and shirts. The Indians both won and lost their shirts at the same time." Goodspeed states that "this treaty the Rogue River Indians relinquished their title to certain lands in the neighborhood of the Cascades." The Native American signatories to the treaty are listed as Jo-aps-er-ka-har Sam To-qua-he-ar and Jim Ana-cha-a-rah "headmen of the Rogue River tribe of Indians. unknown‎
