‎The genocide of truth continues. But facts tell the real story.‎

‎New English Original bdg. HC. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 17 cm). In English. [xii], 523 p. The genocide of truth continues. But facts tell the real story. Sukru Server Aya has taken on a thankless but extremely valuable task. Generations of scholars, politicians, and internet bloggers will make use of his work, often not citing the source. Others those who do not want what Aya has uncovered ever to be seen will excoriate him. Heedless of both supporters and detractors, Aya has continued to collect and analyze the documents and assertions that underlie the Armenian Question. He may not ever be properly thanked for his labors, but those of us who appreciate his discoveries know their great value. -Justin A. McCarthy- Justin McCarthy is Professor of History and Distinguished University Scholar at the University of Louisville. Among his works on related subjects: Muslims and Minorities (1983), Death and Exile (1995), The Ottoman Turks (1997), The Ottoman Peoples and End of Empire (2001), The Armenian Rebellion at Van (2006), and The Turk in America (2010). Although clearly not a trained and scholarly historian, Sukru Server Aya has offered over many years a monumental service in collecting documents unmistakably illustrating the exaggerated, inconsistent statements about the treatment of the Ottoman Government, and Turks generally, of Armenians during WWI. The evidence here is of a prejudicial, one-sided and venomous anti-Turkish stance characteristic of a time when the defeated Turks were fair game. Aya's collection of the words of influential Armenian advocates cannot be ignored and yet it has been and most likely will continue to be. Yet if the world listens to the facts Aya so passionately presents, a step forward will have been taken to interrupt the continuous cycle of murderous Insatiable rage based on the events of a century ago. -Sam S. Baskett-. ARMENIANS Deportation, 1915 Ottoman Empire World War 1 Union and Progress Party (Ittihad ve Terakki Cemiyeti) Armenian question.‎

‎New English Paperback. Pbo. 4to. (30 x 25 cm). In English and Turkish. 227 p., b/w and color ills. Aydin: A visual history of the city.= Aydin: Bir kentin görsel tarihi. The present study in your hands aims to present the times of a city at least at the threshold of the modern times, before the unfortunate events of 1919-1922 through engravings, photographs and postcards. The material was collected over a long period of time due to difficulty of procurement and it was necessary to publish them instead of waiting for new material to be discovered. The glass negatives in the collection of the German Archaeological Institute (DAI) in Istanbul make up a unique set of images for Aydin. Materials presented here include those published in Bitek Topraklar Üstünde Aydin and others and they will facilitate a new access for those who would like to explore the visual history of the city. ‎Sirince. Bir zamanlar Çirkince.‎

‎New English Paperback. Pbo. Demy 8vo. (21 x 15 cm). 84 p. In Turkish. Color and b/w ills. "Each villager was the lord of his own piece of land. Everybody had a two-storied house in the village. In addition, a summer home surrounded with walnut, almond, apple, pear and cherry trees and vegetable gardens. Andnobody neglected to decorate their gardens with flowers. And the streams springing on ali sides never stopped flowing. When the wheat and barley were ripe our fields were like gold gilt seas. You would never find elsewhere olive trees such as ours, full of olives so much that the branches touched the ground, round and black olives, glimmering olive trees. Olive oil was a slow but reliable source of income. But figs. Figs filled the belt of the villagers with gold! Our figs were famous not only in Aydin province but also in the East, Europe and America. Such a thin skin almost non-existing, honeyed with the sun of Anatolia." Dido Sotiriou.‎

‎New English Paperback. Pbo. Demy 8vo. (21 x 15 cm). In German. 84 p. Color and b/w ills.

Sükufe Nihal Basar was a Turkish educator, poet, and activist, who took part in women's liberation movements during Turkey's nation-building process. She took an active role in various women's associations, wrote columns in journals and newspapers about women's rights. She was arguing that women had to have professions, yet she was contra the fact that women were seeing marriage as a profession.‎

‎Denizcilerin karargâhi Kasimpasa.‎

‎New English Original bdg. 4to. (32 x 23 cm). In Turkish. Many b/w and color ills. 296 p. Denizcilerin karargâhi Kasimpasa. [= Sailors' headquarters: Kasimpasha]. "Kasimpasa is one of the oldest residential areas in Istanbul with a strong naval tradition. The ships of Sultan Mehmed II sailed into the Golden Horn from the quarter. After the Fall of Constantinople Kasimpasa flourished. By the 16th century it contained the principal dockyards of the Ottoman Empire, home to 120 ships. As the Empire declined, the yard became neglected. By the 19th century the Ottoman fleet was ineffective as a military power, and much of the neighbourhood was destroyed by fire. Today, the old arsenal is a repair dock serving cargo ships, ferries and a small shipping line. The Turkish Naval High School was founded in 1773 to teach geometry and navigation to naval and civilian merchant captains on board a galleon anchored at Kasimpasa. The Turkish Naval Academy was housed in Kasimpasa from 1838 to 1850. Following the Armistice of Mudanya, the former Ottoman Ministry of the Navy (Bahriye Nazirligi) building in Kasimpasa became the headquarters of the Istanbul Naval Command on 14 November 1922. During the riots of 1955, Greek dwellings in Kasimpasa were attacked and looted. (From Wikipedia)". OTTOMANIA Istanbul Constantinople Military history Navigation Urban history.‎

Extremely rare. was an eminent Ottoman Turkish poet. He mastered Arabic, Persian, and French languages and worked as a civil servant during the reign of Sultan Abdulhamid II. He contributed to the literary magazine Servet-i-Fünun ("the Wealth of Knowledge") until it was censored by the Ottoman government in 1901. Süleyman Nazif was born in 1870 in Diyarbakir to Sait Pasha, a poet and historian. He was the brother of renowned Turkish poet and politician Faik Ali Ozansoy. He started his education in his very early years in Maras. Later, he was schooled in Diyarbakir. In 1879, he joined his father again in Maras, took private lessons from his father and in French language from an Armenian priest. Following the death of his father in 1892, Süleyman Nazif worked at several posts in the Governorate of Diyarbakir. In 1896, he was promoted and worked a while in Mosul. After moving to Constantinople, he started to write articles against Sultan Abdul Hamid II sympathizing with the ideas and aims of the Young Ottomans. He fled to Paris, France, where he stayed eight months continuing to write opposing articles in the newspapers. When he returned home, he was forced to work at a secretary post in the Governorate of Bursa between 1897 and 1908. In 1908, Süleyman Nazif moved to Constantinople again, joined the Committee of Union and Progress and started journalism. He co-founded also a newspaper, Tasvir-i Efkar, together with the renowned journalist Ebüzziya Tevfik. Although this newspaper had to close soon, his articles made him a well-known writer. After Sultan Abdülhamid II restored the constitutional monarchy following the 1908 Young Turk Revolution, Süleyman Nazif served as governor of Ottoman provinces Basra (1909), Kastamonu (1910), Trabzon (1911), Mosul (1913) and Baghdad (1914). However, since he was not very successful in administrative posts, he decided in 1915 to leave public service and return to his initial profession as a writer. This is fourth book of Nazif.‎

‎SÜLEYMAN NAZIF, (Turkish poet), (1870-1927).‎

‎[Autograph letter and envelope, signed by "Süleyman Nazif" to Ibnülemin Mahmud Kemal Inal].‎

‎Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original autograph letter. 3 p. No letterhead on paper neither on envelope. In Ottoman script. Stamped envelope. It's written on envelope: "Istanbul'da (Bayezid) [?] (Mercan)'da Muradiye Sokagindaki [.] Ibnülemin Mahmud Kemal Inal Beyefendiye...". Starts as 'Birader kemalâtperverim...' [= My brother virtuous!]. It is a poetic style of Nazif. Signed as 'Süleyman Nazif'. Dated 29 Eylül 1932, Nisantasi. Nazif was an eminent Ottoman-born Turkish poet. He mastered Arabic, Persian, and French languages and worked as a civil servant during the reign of Sultan Abdul Hamid II. He contributed to the literary magazine Servet-i Fünun ("Wealth of Knowledge") until it was censored by the Ottoman government in 1901. Nazif, ever critical of the European imperialist powers, attracted once more their hostility when he wrote his satirical article "Hazret-i Isa'ya açik mektup" (Open letter to Jesus) in which he described to Jesus' all the crimes that were perpetrated by his followers in his name. Two weeks later he published "The reply of Jesus" in which he, as if Jesus was talking, refuted the charges and replied that he is not responsible for the Christians' crimes. These two letters caused a furore among Christians in Turkey and Europe, putting Nazif on the verge of being put on trial. In the end this did not materialize, Nazif apologizing but being not less critical of the "Crusader mentality" of the imperialist Europeans, targeting Turkey in order to extend their power on its soil. Ibnülemin Mahmud Kemal Inal, (1871-1957) was an Ottoman-Turkish intelligent and 'the last biographer'.‎

First and Only Edition of Süleyman Tevfik's travels to Thessaly, who participated in the Turco-Greco War in 1897 as a war correspondent to watch the war in the Thessaly Front between April 27 - May 20, 1897. The Greco-Turkish War of 1897 or the Ottoman-Greek War of 1897, also called the Thirty Days' War and known in Greece as the Black '97. It was a war fought between the Kingdom of Greece and the Ottoman Empire. Its immediate cause was the question over the status of the Ottoman province of Crete, whose Greek majority had long desired union with Greece. Despite the Ottoman victory on the field, an autonomous Cretan State under Ottoman suzerainty was established the following year (as a result of the intervention of the Great Powers after the war), with Prince George of Greece and Denmark as its first High Commissioner. This was the first war effort in which the military and political personnel of Greece were put to test in an official open war since the Greek War of Independence in 1821. For the Ottoman Empire, this was also the first war effort in which the reorganized military personnel were put to test. The Ottoman army was under the guidance of a German military mission led by Colmar Freiherr von der Goltz, who had reorganized it after the defeat in the Russo-Turkish War (1877-1878). In Thessalian Front, war was declared on 18 April when the Ottoman ambassador in Athens, Asim Bey, met with the Greek foreign minister announcing the cutting of diplomatic ties. Heavy fighting occurred between the 21-22 April outside the town of Tyrnavos but when the overwhelming Ottoman forces converged and pushed together, the Greek general staff ordered a general withdrawal, spreading panic among soldiers and civilians alike. Larissa fell on 27 April, while the Greek front was being reorganized behind the strategic lines of Velestino, in Farsala. Nevertheless, a division was ordered to head for Velestino, thus cutting Greek forces in two, 60 km apart. Between 27 and 30 April, under the command of Col. Konstantinos Smolenskis, Greek forces checked and halted the Ottoman advance. On 5 May three Ottoman divisions attacked Farsala, forcing an orderly withdrawal of Greek forces to Domokos, while on the eve of those events Smolenskis withdrew from newly recaptured Velestino to Almyros. Volos fell into Ottoman hands-on 8 May. At Domokos, the Greeks assembled 40,000 men in a strong defensive position, joined by about 2,000 Italian "Redshirt" volunteers under the command of Ricciotti Garibaldi, son of Giuseppe Garibaldi. The Ottoman Empire had a total of about 70,000 troops, of whom about 45,000 were directly engaged in the battle. On 16 May the attackers sent part of their army around the flank of the Greeks to cut off their line of retreat, but it failed to arrive in time. The next day the rest of their army made a frontal assault. Both sides fought ferociously. The Ottomans were held at bay by the fire of the defending infantry until their left flank defeated the Greek right. The Ottoman formation broke through, forcing a renewed withdrawal. Smolenskis was ordered to stand his ground at the Thermopylae passage but on 20 May a ceasefire went into effect. Suleyman Tevfik was there in the frontline himself during this war. He shared his anecdotes about how to receive news from the battlefield and how to deliver them to Istanbul. Also, he wrote about professional conversations with journalists from other countries.
