‎L'Immigration Judéo-Espagnole à Buenos-Aires: Histoire d'une commuunauté invisible, (1876-1930).‎

‎New French Paperback. Demy 8vo. (21 x 14 cm). In French. 264 p. L'Immigration Judéo-Espagnole à Buenos-Aires: Histoire d'une commuunauté invisible, (1876-1930). History of the emigration of the Sephardis to Buenos Aires (Argentina), 1876-1930.

‎Political representation of minorities in Greece and Turkey: Nationalism, reciprocity and Europeanization.‎

‎New English Paperback. Demy 8vo. (21 x 14 cm). In English. 512 p. Political representation of minorities in Greece and Turkey: Nationalism, reciprocity and Europeanization. What influences the political representation of minorities? Does a non-core group pursue a certain pattern of collective political behavior, or does it have the ability to alter it through struggle with other groups by calculating the existing opportunities and restrictions? This book addresses these important questions by focusing on the history of political representation of the Muslim-Turkish minority in Greece and the Greek-Orthodox minority in Turkey, two communities whose rights are linked to each other via the "reciprocity principle" written in the Lausanne Treaty, signed by two countries that have long-lasting conflicts. Drawing on presentation of related political history, systematic coding of parliamentary debates and works, minority and mainstream newspapers, and elite interviews, the author analyzes and explains ignored linkages between institutions, bilateral relations between Greece and Turkey, and the role of external factors that enable or constrain minority communities access to political life. This study which adopts a historical institutionalism approach and, by integrating theory of both comparative politics and international relations, shows how the minority groups political participation and the effectiveness of their representation has been determined by the triangle of the two states choice of nationalism, reciprocity and Europeanization policies, mainly argues that internal factors such as groups capability for competition and institutional features of the political system in the host-state mostly override states bilateral relations with the kin-state and international factors. As a result, for the Greek and Turkish case, the host-states generally pursue the policy of state-controlled involvement of their minorities in the political life, where the existence of the threatening kin-state and minority groups strong demographic features lead to avoidance of full assimilation and exclusion from political representation.‎

Throughout History, trading zones have shaped the development of urban lanscapes. Anatolia was the craddle of trade and for thousands of years it was the scene of the development of commerce, industry and innovation. The Grand Bazaar of Istanbul is a formidable center of trade dating back 500 years, and probably the most complex and complete structure inherited from the Ottoman Empire.‎

‎Stories and memories of Bodrum's Jewish community.‎

‎New English Paperback. Demy 8vo. (21 x 14 cm). In English. 195 p. Stories and memories of Bodrum's Jewish community. Some may know Bodrum as a pleasant vacation spot in Southwestern Turkey. Few, however, would know this town as the home of a small but influential Jewish community that thrived until the mid-20th century. In this book, artist and researcher C. M. Kösemen uses historic sources and interviews to flesh out the first comprehensive overview of this little-known Sephardic community. Here you will find compelling stories and poignant memories; of ancient Jewish settlements in the remote corners of the Bodrum peninsula; of pleasant family relations between Turks and Jews; of wartime hardships and near-escapes; of people like Janet Akyüz Mattei, who went on to become one of the world s greatest astrophysicists; of Abraham Galante the historian; and more Illustrated with detailed black-and-white photographs and annotated with footnotes that explain local nuances, this book also contains a touristic itinerary of Judaic sites in the vicinity of Bodrum.‎

‎New English Original bdg. HC. Folio. (34 x 27 cm). In English. 2 volumes set: (817 p.), color ills. Harmony of line and colour: Illuminated manuscripts documents and calligraphy in the Sadberk Hanim Museum Collection. 2 volumes set. Selection of the museum's magnificient collection of illuminated manuscripts and calligraphy. Sadberk Hanim Museum's collection of illuminated manuscripts and calligraphy was created as a result of the special interest in this subject felt by Sevgi Gönül, who herself had an outstanding collection of calligraphic panels. Sevgi Gönül served as Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Museum until her death in 2003 and under her direction the collection was enriched with rare manuscript Korans, prayer books, albums, documents such as imperial edicts, warrants and endowment deeds, hilye-i serif panels and calligraphic wall panels by renowned Ottoman calligraphers. Sevgi Gönül also collected rare examples of Sufi panels. Over time both collections developed and diversified to a noteworthy degree. Sevgi Gönül's personal calligraphy collection was at her own wish transferred to Sadberk Hanim Museum in 2004, following her premature death. Sadberk Hanim Museum's collection of manuscripts and calligraphy totalled 915 works at the start of 2019. Apart from the 157 works belonging to the Sevgi Gönül collection, the museum collection comprises the Hüseyin Kocabas collection, the Pirizade collection, works purchased at auction in Turkey and abroad, and donations. The Hüseyin Kocabas collection of 601 works consists of Korans, copies of the Dela'ilü'l-Hayrat,miscellanies, calligraphers' diplomas and literary works. The Pirizade collection consists of 28 manuscripts, nine of which are Korans. Korans and prayer books that are richly illuminated on every page, albums, documents such as endowment deeds, property deeds, imperial edicts, are invaluable sources of information for Ottoman social and economic history, architecture and art. Examples preserved in Sadberk Hanim Museum are enlightening as regards Ottoman calligraphic style between the late fifteenth and early twentieth centuries, while the signatures on these works increase our knowledge of the master calligraphers, artists and illuminators who created them.‎

‎New English Original cloth bdg. 4to. (31 x 22 cm). Edition in English. 326 p., color and b/w ills. The Iznik Tile Kiln Excavations (The second round: 1981-1988). Edited by Tülay Duran. "The progress taking place in the second round of excavations of Iznik tile kilns was starting point for the declaration of 1989 as 'The year of Iznik'. This object of this book is to provide a scholarly classification and presentation of the results of excavations that are product of eight years of effort. The finds turned up both in the first round of excavations (which began in 1964) and in the second have been eagerly awaited by Turkish and foreign art historians. We believe that the results of the work at Iznik will be an important source of information for the International Iznik Symposium that is to be held in Istanbul this year. A veil of mystery, reinforced by foreign sources, has shrouded Iznik tiles and pottery and led to a number of misinterpretations. We believe that through this book, that veil will be lifted for it proves -among other things- the error of such mistaken classifications as 'Miletos ware', 'Damascus ware', and 'Rhodes [Rhodos] ware' while at the same time in reveals the connection between Iznik ceramics manufacture and Seljuk ceramic manufacture, a fact of importance from the standpoint of the continuity of Turkish culture...". ‎Komana small finds (Settlement Archaeology Series 7).‎

‎New English Paperback. 4to. (28 x 20 cm). In English. 396 p., ills. Komana small finds (Settlement Archaeology Series 7). The aim of this book has been to collect papers on small finds recovered during the excavations at Komana between 2009 and 2018. It also marks the 10th year of excavations. Komana is a sanctuary site during the Hellenistic period, a place of worship for the kings as well as people from all over the country. It existed through the Roman and then the Byzantine period, was mentioned in the early Turkish written sources and reached the Turkish Republican period as a small rural village. The site is and was in a rural setting, surrounded by agricultural land along Yesilirmak and its economy depended on agriculture throughout its history. The rural character was not a limitation for the site, on the contrary an attraction due to the wealth it generated. There are clear imports from the Aegean among the scarce finds from the Hellenistic period just like the wealthy finds from the Byzantine and Danishmend / Seljuk periods indicating contacts with Corinth, Byzantium, Cilicia, Iran, Egypt. Contents: D. Burcu ERCIYAS / Archaeology at Komana.; Tasha VORDERSTRASSE / Experiencing the Medieval Churches of Komana.; Meryem ACARA ESER / Objects from Daily Life at Komana: Jewelry.; Yunus Emre KARASU - Nursen ÖZKUL FINDIK / Figured Ceramics Found at Komana (Tokat) Excavations.; Tasha VORDERSTRASSE / Lamps from the Roman - Middle Islamic Periods .; Gülseren KOYUN ESEN / Small Finds at Komana Made of Bone, Clay and Stone.; Evangelia PISKIN - Hilal KÜNTÜZ / Bone Working Waste: The Infamous Bone Worker and Other Craftsmen Peeking Through the Animal Bone Assemblage from Medieval Komana.; Ceren ÜNAL / Byzantine Coin Finds from the Komana Excavation: A Preliminary Study.; Polina IVANOVA / The Coins: Danishmend / Seljuk Phase.; Ömür BAKIRER / Komana Glass Bracelets, Preliminary Report.; Nurdan YÜCEL - Emine N. ‎BURDURLU DERVIS MEHMED PASHA, (1765-1837); (Duty period: 1818-1820).‎

‎[AUTOGRAPH 'BUYURULDU' SIGNED OTTOMAN GRAND VIZIER on EARLY POSTAL ORGANIZATION BUDGET 'DEFTER'] [Harmancik qaza of Bursa city 'Menzil' budget manuscript paper and Turkish sadrazam signature and order with qadi signature].‎

‎Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original manuscript paper. Double elephant folio. (79 x 58 cm). In Ottoman script. Hegira: [1]233-[1]234 = Gregorian: 1818. Burdurlu Dervish Mehmed Pasha, who was grand vizier held office under Mahmud II between the years of 1818-1820. Dervis Mehmed Pasa had gained a reputation among the 'vüzerâ' (Grand-viziers) would be the grand vizier as previously planned by Sultan Mahmud II according the 19th-century historian of Sânîzâde. He dealt with like cases the Aleppo revolution, confusions in Diyarbekir and Çildir, conquest of the Castle of Dir'iye, the center of the Wahhabis by Ibrahim Pasha, the son of Kavalali Mehmed Ali Pasha, the governor of Egypt and confusions in Sivas city. (Türkiye Diyanet Vakfi Islâm Ansiklopedisi). Buyuruldu (or Buyrultu, Buyurildi, Buyurdu etc.) is the order of an Ottoman grand vizier, vizier, beglerbegi , defterdâr , or other high official to a subordinate. The term is derived from the word 'buyuruldi', it has been ordered, in which the order usually ends and which gradually developed into a conventional sign. Buyuruldus are of two main types: a) decisions written in the margin (der kenâr) of an incoming petition or report, often ordering that a fermân (firman) (or berât , etc.) be issued to a certain effect... (Brill, Encyclopedia of Islam). "Menzils" were early post organization in the Ottoman Empire before Reform period. In the Ottoman Empire, every 35 kilometers - the distance one could travel in a day - on the main roads, there were buildings called "menzil" or "menzilhane" (destination, post station). Surrounded by walls, these yards had a hostelry, barn, market, bath and restaurant. Hosted at the complex for free, travelers shopped, took baths and fed their animals and continued their journeys the following day. At the complex, officials - registered and paid by the state - served the guests. Within time, menzils turned into bazaars where locals sold their products. Then, villages and towns started pop up around them. Commodities needed by the army for expeditions were preserved at menzils and soldiers were accommodated at these facilities if needed during expeditions. Mailmen operating between two faraway destinations changed their horses with those waiting at menzils and went on their route without losing time. (Source: Ekrem Bugra Ekinci). This huge sized budget paper (defter) written on paper with 'ahar'. Used black and red inks. It's written from Harmancik qaza (district) in Bursa vilayet (city) and sent to court of Istanbul for grand vizier confirmation. It's a budget defter of Harmancik 'menzil'. Apprx. 250-300 articles (registers) in notes as expenses like Tatar postmans, horses, Kütahya beglerbegi (beylerbeyi), qadis (judges) and other ones. At the end of registers, there is qadi signature (seal), qadi's name is Mehmed es-Seyyid Samed (?). He was probably Turkish judge in its period in that menzil of Bursa, Harmancik. Budget registers start as '[1]233 senesi Saban-i Muazzama'nin gurresinden [1]234 senesinin Saban-i Serif'inin menzil kuyudu'. Registers had been sent to the Ottoman court for approval from Bursa to Istanbul. Grand vizier's hand writing is in 'diwanî' script. Biographies of women from Islamic and Turkish world. "Mesahiru'n Nisa" Mehmed Zihni Efendi's is one of the most important works in the tradition of Islamic historiography. Within this tradition, a partial examination has been carried out on books written on social classes to determine on how much emphasis has been given on the "type and number" of women. The most important difference that separates "Mesahiru'n-Nisa" from previous traditional books on social classes is the reason it was written. The author wrote his work at the request of "Maarif Nezareti" ( Ministry of Education) to be read to young girl students at "Darulmuallimat" at that time. Zihni Efendi portrayed a "model Muslim woman profile" in his study. Within this framework, the author tried to realize three aims: Women who have become noted in different artistic, social, scientific and occupational areas not because of their gender but because they provide as an example with what they have done to young girl students. On the other hand, the moral side of a woman was given importance and very many moral women introduced in their various aspects were given as an example of their eminent personalities. In particular, emphasis was given on being a "good wife" and a "good mother.".
