SAMIPASAZADE SEZAI 1859 1936 Turkish writer intelligent pioneer of novel and short story in the Ottoman Turkey.

Istanbul. Soft cover. Very Good. Original autograph letter signed as 'Sezai' by Samipasazade Sezai to T�rkgeldi family. In Ottoman script. 4 p. last page has Ali Fuat T�rkgeldi's autograph note on Samipasazade Sezai's death as: "Samipasazade Sezai Bey; 26 Nisan 1936 Pazar aksami saat dokuzu yirmi ge�e 21:20 �lm�st�r.". Sezai's letter starts as 'Pek muhterem kardesim'. Used blue ink with a fountain pen. Ali Fuat T�rkgeldi 1867-1935 was an Ottoman historian and politician. He is the son of Cel�l Bey the undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior and the son of Cemal Bey in the Reform period Tanzimat - Westernization period the director of Translation Chamber. Sezai Turkish realist storyteller novelist. He is the author of Serg�zest Adventure which is one of the first realistic novels of Turkish literature. Also he was pioneer of the modern short story in Turkish literature with K���k seyler 'Little things' he wrote in 1892. Between 1885 and 1901 he lived in Istanbul this letter dated probably in that period and had a literary period. He was close friends with Abd�lhak Hamit and Recaizade Ekrem. He met with Namik Kemal whom he met when he was 17-18. He did not produce many works like other Tanzimat writers; wrote one novel two small story books and travel memoirs. In 1888 he published a novel called Serg�zest A story about a Pasazade and his love story after which he became one of the first writers of Turkish literature after Semseddin Sami Namik Kemal and Ahmet Mithat Efendi. He translated Alphonse Daudet's 'Jak' into Turkish. For thinking that he was being held under 'surveillance' for his novel he went to Paris in 1901 and stayed there until the declaration of the Constitutional Monarchy in 1908. He met the Young Turks in Paris; He joined the Committee of Union and Progress and came to a respected place in the community in a short time. Upon the declaration of the Constitutional Monarchy he returned to Istanbul and was appointed as ambassador to Madrid. As WW 1 began he moved from Madrid to Switzerland where he stayed until the end of the war. His only novel Serguzest was the first novel in Turkish literature to deal entirely with captivity; the novel in which the system of concubinance and slavery was criticized was his most famous work. It was translated into French by Besim �mer Pasha. e combined romance and realism in her writings. He combined romanticism and realism in his writings. Ibrahim Edhem Pasha 1819-1893 was an Ottoman statesman who held the office of Grand Vizier in the beginning of Abdul Hamid II's reign between 5 February 1877 and 11 January 1878. He served numerous administrative positions in the Ottoman Empire including minister of foreign affairs in 1856 then ambassador to Berlin in 1876 and to Vienna from 1879 to 1882. He also served as a military engineer and as Minister of Interior from 1883 to 1885. In 1876-1877 he represented the Ottoman Government at the Constantinople Conference. Ibrahim Edhem Pasha was the father of Osman Hamdi Bey a well-known archaeologist and painter as well the founder of the Istanbul Archaeology Museum and the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. Another son Halil Edhem Eldem took up the archaeology museum after Osman Hamdi Bey's death and has been a deputy for ten years under the newly founded Turkish Republic. Yet another son Ismail Galib Bey is considered as the founder of numismatics as a scientific discipline in Turkey. Later generations of the family also produced illustrious names. The architect Sedat Hakki Eldem a cousin is one of the pillars of the search for modern architectural styles adopted by the Republic of Turkey called the Republican style in the Turkish context in its early years and which marks many important buildings dating from the period of the 1920s and the 1930s. A great-grandson Burak Eldem is a writer while another Edhem Eldem is a renowned historian. More names include Erol Eldem Tiana Eldem Levent Eldem and Ercan Eldem an architect. Sent from abroad to Turkey before one year of his return. Damat Mehmet Serif was a Turkish statesman Ottoman Minister of Interior author translator and the groom of Sultan Abdulaziz. He graduated Mulkiye School and worked in various government services. In 1901 he married Emine Sultan who was the daughter of Sultan Abd�laziz. Therefore he was groom Damat of Ottoman Court in the last period of the Ottoman Empire. He was translator of 'Voyages of Ibn-i Battuta' into Turkish from Arabic language and 'The Prince' by Machiavelli. from French. Source: T�rk meshurlari -1946- Ibrahim Alaettin G�vsa. Cimcoz graduated from Istanbul Law School. He was also a member of Union and Progress deputy of Meclis-i Mebusan Ottoman Parliament and owner 'Kalem' humorist periodical. Both these figures which are very important in terms of Turkey's history and last Ottoman period also were "150 personae non-gratae" and exiled to Malta in 1919. Frame size: 30x36 cm; paper size: 17x23 cm. Hand-written text in Ottoman Turkish with Arabic letters. Envelope of Turkish medal issuance order by state sultan to Ahmed Ahmet Tevfik Pasha. He was the Ottoman statesman and the last Ottoman grand vizier. After serving 14 years as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the period of Abd�lhamid II. Abdulhamid II and the continuation of the reign of Mehmed V between April 13 1909 and May 5 1909 during the reign of Mehmed VI and during the occupation of Istanbul between November 11 1918 - March 3 1919 and between 21 October 1920 and 4 November 1922 he served as a grand vizier for two years four months and twenty nine days in three periods mainly five terms. The son of the Crimean Tatari who was based on the Giray Dynasty was the son of Ferik Ismail Hakki Pasha. He left the military officer and entered the Babi�li The Sublime Porte Translation Chamber. After 1872 he served in various foreign missions and after serving in Rome Vienna St. Petersburg and Athens he served as an ambassador for 18 years in Berlin. London.: W. Miller. Engravings dated 1802 but circa 1822. Stipple engraving handcolored sheet size 14 x 10 inches. Very slight indentation at upper edge of sheet from vintage paperclip and two small 1/2 inch squares of adhesive residue at upper corners on verso - neither affecting the image area in any way. Very good condition clean and bright. An attractive print together with a separate sheet of descriptive text in both English and French. An exquisitely engraved and handcolored image plate number 38 from Octavian Dalvimart's "The Costume of Turkey" which was first published in 1802. This engraving has an 1802 date in the publishing line beneath the image but the plate is from a later edition the selection of prints presently available having watermarks from 1818 to 1822. The descriptive text gives brief but pertinent information: ".every person who can afford it has his secretary and other domestics that he might not be compelled to exert himself it is not to be supposed that the Grand Seignior himself should be dificient in these attendants." etc. etc. A richly colored and detailed image from an important early study of Turkish costume and culture. .
