small 4to, br ed. 223pp. Photojournalist, a book by Nezih Tavlas, provides a compelling and in-depth look into the life of Ara Güler who was regarded as one of the most accomplished documentary photographers of the 20th century and the pioneer of photojournalism in Turkey. The book lists all of Guler’s professional accomplishments while also providing rare insight into his personal life and his photographic legacy amounts to over two million stories told. Born into a Turkish-Armenian family in Istanbul in 1928, Ara Güler who has been given the nickname, "The Eye of Istanbul" and also described as “one of the most important living representatives of creative photography today.” Güler’s photographic work started being published in the late 1950s and early 1960s; his work has been displayed at many of the world’s major art centers, including New York, London and Paris. He has published many books on his work and is the recipient of many awards and honors. Many examples of Güler’s photographic work are to be found in institutions such as the French National Library in Paris and the Sheldon Collection at Nebraska University, as well as in private collections in Boston, Chicago and New York. His photographs are also displayed at the Ludwig Museum and at Das Imaginare Photo-Museum, both in Cologne.Güler’s international reputation is well-established after spending nearly 60 years in journalism, starting in 1950, from where he went on to become a photojournalist for Time-Life in 1956 and for Paris Match and Stern in 1958. Around the same time, he joined the Magnum Agency. The British Journal of Photography Year Book published in the U.K. in 1968 named Güler as one of the seven best photographers in the world. In 1962, he received the Leica Master award in Germany and French Legion of Honor.Ara Güler, arguably Turkey’s most eminent photographer, impressively portrayed life in the city of Istanbul, his birthplace and home, for over 60 years. He was world famous for his incomparable black-and-white images of the metropolis on the shores of the Bosporus from the 1950s and 1960s. Ara Güler, (1928-2018), was also well known for his work as a reporter and photojournalist covering political affairs around the world and for his photographic interviews with many prominent politicians and artists of the period, from Ansel Adams, Louis Aragon, John Berger, Willy Brandt, Erskine Caldwell, Maria Callas, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Marc Chagall, Winston Churchill, Imogen Cunningham, Salvador Dali, Federico Fellini, Indira Gandhi, Alfred Hitchcock, Dustin Hoffman, Danny Kaye, Elia Kazan, Aram Khachaturian, Josef Koudelka, Sophia Loren, Henry Luce, Arthur Miller, Vincente Minelli, Aristotle Onassis, Pablo Picasso, Jean Renoir, Marc Riboud, Bertrand Russell, Sebastiao Salgado, William Saroyan, Mother Teresa, Arnold Toynbee, John Updike, Orson Welles and Tennessee Williams.

"In the same year in the course of Erzurum Kerim Hitli Fort set under the leadership of Albert Bilstein who came from Austria, the army engaged in skiing and the first skiers such as Arif Hikmet Koyunoglu Cemal Dursunoglu, Kemal Hasip had been brought up. A ski battalion composed of four companies was founded in Erzincan in 1917. In the same period the first ski school was set up in Susehri (Buldur Village) by Hikmet Koyunoglu. A Teacher of Galatasaray High School skiing in Uludag in 1933 boosted activity to the sport and afterwards the ski activities organised by Bursa Community Centre in Uludag in 1933-1934, Ankara Community Centre in Elmadag and Erzurum Community Centre in Palandöken had been important movements...". Meclis-i Mebûsân (The Chamber of Deputies) of the Ottoman Empire was the lower house of the General Assembly, the Ottoman Parliament. Unlike to the upper house, the Senate, the members of the Chamber of Deputies were elected by the general Ottoman populace, although suffrage was limited to males of a certain financial standing, among other restrictions that varied over the Chamber's lifetime. The Second Constitutional Era of the Ottoman Empire began shortly after Abdul Hamid II was forced to restore the constitutional monarchy after the 1908 Young Turk Revolution. The period established many political groups and parties. Ahmet Riza became the first President of the Chamber in 1908. An amendment in 1909 to the original 1876 constitution resulted in the Chamber gaining more true political power at the expense of the non-democratically elected Senate and the Sultan. A series of elections during this period resulted in the gradual ascendance of the Committee of Union and Progress's (CUP) domination in politics. The second largest party Liberal Unionist Party (LU) (Turkish: Hürriyet ve Itilâf) was in fact a coalition of parties led by Prince Sabahaddin. He was a Turkish statesman governor and member of state council according to Sicill-i Osm�n� by S�reya and T�rkischer Biographischer Index. The House of Giray Crimean Tatar: Geraylar Turkish: �l-i Cengiz also Girays were the Genghisid/Turkic dynasty that reigned in the Khanate of Crimea from its formation in 1427 until its downfall in 1783. The dynasty also supplied several khans of Kazan and Astrakhan between 1521 and 1550. Apart from the royal Girays there was also a lateral branch the Choban Girays �oban Geraylar. Before reaching the age of majority young Girays were brought up in one of the Circassian tribes where they were instructed in the arts of war. The Giray khans were elected by other Crimean Tatar dynasts called myrzas mirzalar. They also elected an heir apparent called the qalgha sultan qalga sultan. In later centuries the Ottoman Sultan obtained the right of installing and deposing the khans at his will. First published in any form of this symbolist poem, is the manifest of the attempt to settle in New Zealand by falling into pessimism, written during Sultan Abdülhamid II's tyranny period between two Constitutionalist regimes in the Imperial Ottoman, by Servet-i Fünûn literary scene leading of Ottoman poet Tevfik Fikret and his friends like Mehmed Rauf, Hüseyin Kadri, Dr. Esad Pasa, Hüseyin Cahit, Süleyman Nesip, Ahmet Hikmet Müftüoglu. In the westernization period, there is an escape especially the Servet-i Fünuncus to New Zealand, Scotland, and Finland. This escape can be seen as both alienation and help-seeking. Historical point of view, sociological research and in-depth analysis personal sufferings of intellectuals who attempted to escape can provide true findings and information, which can light this period, about the dualism of these intellectuals and their attempts to escape. Tevfik Fikret is one of the pioneers who symbolize this escape. Fikret does not leave the homeland, but in much poetry, he attributes a mission of escape and rescue to places in his poem. Places, where this mission is the most intense, are streets, Asiyan, grave, mosque, Istanbul, the parliament, palace, garden, and village. The first utopian texts in Turkish literature were dreams written in an effort to save the declining Ottoman State. In the period of Servet-i Fünûn [i.e. The Wealth of Sciences], which was a time of crisis, some utopias such as the Yesil Yurt [i.e. Green Land]. Fikret decided to go to New Zealand (after Manisa city) with friends from his literary circle. After a while, he changed his mind and began to construct a special house for his family on the Bosphorus, which he called "Asiyan" (meaning close friends). Asiyan was finished in 1906. New Zealand carries all the characteristics of a utopian place in this poem by Tevfik Fikret. (Utopias from the Middle East 13).
