‎The Chalcolithic at Mersin Yumuktepe. Level XVI reconsidered.‎

‎New English Paperback. 4to. (30 x 21 cm). In English. 192 p., color and b/w ills. The Chalcolithic at Mersin Yumuktepe. Level XVI reconsidered. The final publication of Level XVI at Mersin-Yumuktepe is the terminal step of a long-term project. The aim of this publication is to integrate the data obtained by J. Garstang during the excavations conducted at Mersin-Yumuktepe (1936-39 and 1946-47) and published in 1953 in the monograph "Prehistoric Mersin", with those produced during the excavations carried out from 1993 to 2004, under the direction of I. Caneva, for a comprehensive reconstruction of one of the most notorious levels of occupation at Yumuktepe. The long prehistoric occupational sequence reconstructed by Garstang, the first to have been established in the archaeology of Cilicia, quickly became one of the main references in the Near Eastern, Levantine and East Mediterranean archaeology. In this framework, the unique evidence represented by the "Citadel" of the Level XVI was often considered as a "hall-mark" of Yumuktepe and a recurring "topos" of the archaeological discourse dealing with the chalcolithic societies of the region. To confront with such a "giant" of the Near Eastern archaeology and with the heritage left by Garstang has not been an easy task. The integration of heterogeneous data produced in the frame of different practices, epistemologies and narratives of archaeology has required a long, continuous and sometimes quizzical process of interpolation and negotiation between past and present archaeological evidence aimed at a detailed and attentive reconstruction of the economic, social and cultural developments of the Early-Chalcolithic community at Yumuktepe. Contents: Preface.; Giulio Palumbi and Isabella Caneva / An Introduction to Yumuktepe Level XVI.; Section I - The Settlement.; 1. Emanuela Brunacci / Topographic survey and graphic rendering 2. Isabella Caneva / Yumuktepe Level XVI: the field data 3. ‎ISABELLA CANEVA, GÜLGÜN KÖROGLU.‎

‎Yumuktepe. A journey through nine thousand years.‎

‎New English Paperback. Pbo. Roy. 8vo. (23,5 x 16,5 cm). Color ills. 133 p. A traveler arriving in Mersin today would be submerged by the traffic and buildings of a lively, modern metropolis, never imagining that they are walking through a city whose origins are among the earliest in the world. Thanks to the excavations Yumuktepe, we now know that the area in which modern Mersin is expanding constituted an exceptional center of life that acted as a meeting point between East and West, in the middle of the Mediterranean sea, for more than 9000 years. The archive of this uninterrupted sequence in history to this day lies, layer upon layer, at Yumuktepe, a mound of earth that stands in the very heart of the city. This aim of this small book is to provide the reader with a short summary of this long sequence of Mediterranean history, with all its peculiarities, using the most significant images from the excavations.‎

‎New English Paperback. Pbo. 4to. (28 x 23 cm). In French and Turkish. 218 p., b/w plts., xvi color numerous plts. Varia Anatolica XXIX. ‎New New English Original bdg. Dust wrapper. 4to. (29 x 24 cm). In English and Turkish. 416 p. The sultans of poetry.= Siirin sultanlari. Prep. by Ezgi Zorlu. During their time, the sultans were known as hukumdar (ruler). That is one who rules, one who holds authority in their hands. It is arguable whether every sultan was a ruler; but there is no doubt that every ruler lived in his own poetry as the sultan of the word. The Sultans of Poetry ruled during the Ottoman centuries, enlivening the corridors of history with dize (lines), beyit (couplets), gazel (lyric poems) and kaside (eulogies); now all these words have given us an eagerness to undertake an uplifting journey through the royal gardens where the poems of the sultans used to resound. I hope you enjoy the trip!.‎

Tâcî-zâde Ca'fer Çelebi (856? / 1452 - 921 / 1515) was a prominent figure in the polittical life of Ottoman society in the late 15th and early 16th centuries, who both as a member of the Council of State and as a personality of distinction in the literary activities of the period was able to influence future developments in these spheres. However, apart from a few articles in qorks of an encyclopaedic nature, most of which have remained unpublished. What judgements have been expressed on his position in Ottoman poetical literature have, consequently, been based on only the most superficial acquaintance with his writings and have little validity. The present thesis collects all the existing information on his life and his career, and presents for the first time a reliable biography, seeking as well, by a study of all his works, to establish his his position in the literary environment of the age. In the second part there is given in transcription a critical edition of his Divân, for which all the existing manuscripts of the work have been used. The aim here has been to achieve a correct text which may be used with confidence by the students of this period of Ottoman literature.‎
