Events of the War of 1812 are listed on p. 3. In addition to the almanac material contains James K. Paulding's satirical "The History of Uncle Sam and His Boys." The illustrations include two half-page woodcuts one of Rochester Falls on the Genesee River and the other of the Loxley House on 2nd Street in Philadelphia. Original owner strengthened spine with a strip of paper and stitched a cloth loop at head of spine to form loop for hanging. Mercantile Library stamps on title page and pp. 3 and 39 as well with institutional book plate mounted on front pastedown otherwise unmarked. Lacks front flyleaf rear flyleaf detached but present. Evans 18081 fragment iv982 pp. continuously paginated of 2662iv982 pp as issued lacking William Penn's "Primitive Christianity Revived" with publisher's catalog at rear. Main title Select Pieces shows printed date in Roman numerals of 1783; second title A Few Experiences shows handwritten date of 1780. Approx. 25% loss to one leaf pp. 3-4 with loss to text mainly a salutation at the head of p. 3 affecting about the first 10 lines of text on p. 4 otherwise complete and intact. A few period notations internally. Moderate foxing to main title otherwise clean with text block edges a bit dulled by age. Very scarce evaluated as Good only due to one incomplete leaf though otherwise solid VG or better with note to recased status. Penington was the father-in-law of Pennsylvania founder William Penn who married Penington's step-daughter Gulielma Maria Springett.
