Inscription on front fixed endpaper covered by bookplate of the Belles Lettres Society of Dickinson College indicating that this was presented to the Society by Joshua Hoover in 1827. Written in pencil on front free endpaper: "Joshua Brinkle." Oval stamp of Dickinson College Library on both front endpapers. On the title page "J. P. Brinckle" is crossed out and "Kemp Roberts" written below. Francis Hopkinson 1737-1791 a Signer of the Declaration of Independence and composer was tried in 1780 on charges of accepting bribes; he was acquitted. John Nicholson d. 1800 financier Comptroller General of Pennsylvania and land speculator was charged with financial irregularities in 1793; he was acquitted.
