Two page map of Boston Massachusetts preceding the title page with a one page map of railroad lines running from Boston and its vicinity including western suburbs and Southern New Hampshire. An almanac for the year 1840 containing a biography of notable Boston residents a history of Boston 200 years prior lists o newspapers fires in 1839 stage routes public houses in Boston etc. With a description of the establishment and early history of railroads in and around Boston as well as a time table for their running. Perhaps of note in this are short handwritten entries in the almanac section documenting the departing of various sailing vessels mostly barks and brigs noting their names and sometimes their destinations. This includes the brigs Mermaid and Cherokee. GOOD condition. Ink spotting to the front and rear cover with a large area of ink staining to the front cover. Minor soiling general fading and scuffing. Light edgewear. Minor scattered foxing and general toning in the interior. Owner's name present. Thomas Groom unknown
